poor QA. Perhaps I am the first one to discover the quality problem of
2005 S40 2.4i as my mileage is nearly 10,000km ("up and dowm" Penang-KL).
The first defect was due to aircond o-ring leaking. I detected the defect
on 26/12/2004 when it was like sauna inside the car. Sent to the workshop
near Mid Valley the next day and got it fixed.
The second defect was due to bad left front wheel bearing. The Penang
workshop had to change the bearing hub after they failed to solve the
defect by putting grease. The Penang workshop also detected the same
defect on the right front wheel bearing! They have ordered the parts and
asked me to send my car again to workshop tomorrow morning. I decided to
send a few days later just to check whether there are anymore defects.
I was disapointed when I wrote to FA using their "talk to us" electronic
form to ask them on how to compensate for the loss of my time for having
to go to their workshop so many times because of Volvo poor QA. So far
no reply from them (already 2 weeks!)

management,at least they are in the process of rectifying...makes one
wonder if this is just an isolated case or a more common problem with the
wheel bearings...hope you get it all sorted out soon

1. Aircond water leaking into the car, just like swamp and smell like swamp under hot sun.
2. CD Changer kaputed within 24 hours after taken delivery of the car.

yet...there are a few models in the UK and European markets with gearbox
problems, notably it drops out of third by itself or its difficult to
select first or reverse, apparently its a grease problem on the splines
that fit into the clutch, after a while it becomes too sticky and causes
the problems mentioned. Some vehicles have also been let loose with
incorrect clutch linkage adjustments which also leads to the same
problems.Hopefully these issues are confined to Europe only!
I agree with what others have wrote, chase the management of FA for a full
explanation of what they have found with your car,ask also if other
buyers have had the same problems...and dont be afraid to ask them to
extend your warranty period!

down, looks like a rough downshift gear change. I highlighted this to the tech guy at FA and he
said it is the software. The software upgrade will fix this problem and is due somewhere in June
this year. Dont know reliable or not, just wait la.

upgrades on new models, after all the hassle they had with the S80
transmissions you would have thought they would have got this one right
before launch!

automatic transmission, gear shift up from 3rd to 4th when coastdown, the
problem still continue with new rx330. They handle case by case.
There are so many reasons behind why the car manufacturers doing that
kind of problem and remain silent.
Volvo could say : "If we spent 50 billion dollars replacing and
reengineering 300,000 transmissions to make them run better it would be a
monumental waste of time, money and resources as compared to the simple,
inexpensive individual owner solution."
Earth resources decrease by the time, ... scrap recycling ... stag on
kedai potong waiting to be reused by used part hunters (like me ...
ha..ha).
Software, as far as I know control the logic gear shifting, for example,
IF Throttle is Low and Vehicle_Speed is Low and Engine_Speed is Low and
Engine_Load is High THEN Shift is No_1 (gear no.1).
On my rx300, the software takes into account the driving habbit, and the
computer memorize it until we reset.
If the software is perfect, but there are mechanical defects and fluids
channeling failures ... What we goona do ...???
BTW, hope that software upgrade will solve the transmission problems.

the bugs. If a product is not ready to roll out, just dont launch it, why lauch a product that is full
of bugs?
