solid & confidence inspiring. i think the best part about the car was
highway cruising. no wind noise detected & at 110 it was ticking over at
around 2300 revs, very quiet & refined. torque was on tap so overtaking
was a breeze. it was a conversation piece with our family, everyone
remarked how good it looked in silver.
even the stock ICE was a revelation - it sounded pretty refined but then
again, i am comparing this against a vtec exhaust drone. if anything the
CD changer did sound a little bright but that's just niggling really.
the stock suspension was very plush, personally i felt that the absorbers
could have a bit more rebound dialled in but that's just me. the stock
eagle NCTs will probably have to go within the next couple of months, i'm
eyeing a set of 205/50/16, thinking of pirelli dragons or conti-sport
contacts, do you guys have alternative suggestions? folks running the
same size tires - any comments? will the car look too jacked up on the
stock suspension height or will set set of lowering springs complement
the look & ride? another question: what camber settings should i go for?
taking into account the larger rear overhang, should i run a slightly
bigger -ve camber at the rear?
definitely no regrets with our purchase.

and soft. Volvo front camber is always positive 0.5, rear is neutral but
with a bigger tyre, then it might go to negative.

comes. a question: do you know what the offset of the stock 15" wheels
are? will it be difficult to find 16" wheels that will fit a v40?

basically a hopped up mitsubishi (with an european touch) I did test
drive it before getting an older V70. It's too small (for me) and not
enough power. Besides the asking price at that time was a bit high (same
as my V70). For the price, it's only natural for me to get a bigger car
and since volvo basically punch the car (40 series) out after being
bought by ford, i though i did the 'purist' thing and buy the last 'real'
volvo to come out from sweden It gives me lots of problem though,
but I'm happy with it as it only breaks down when I dont really need it
and have a little cash surplus LOL it's like the damn thing can read my
mind.
Neway welcome to volvo ownership. Hopefully you car will be problem free
for years to come. (since the 40 series comes with a touch of japanese
engineering i highly doubt anything will ever go wrong)

my S40 was changed from the stock to 205/50/16 with original volvo 16"
rims and sports suspension and shorter coil settings. Got it s own kind of
look if you ask me. A family car that looks as sporty as it can be.
I tried Bridgestone TURANZA, quiet and good control. Also the Falken
ZE512, superb handling on the wet surface, not even the TURANZA can match
that.
After much consideration, will be going for Falken ST115 in the next run.

16" rims and sports suspension and shorter coil settings"
this sounds promising although a bit too much more than i'm willing to
spend right now. can the stock V40 shocks take lowering springs with
stiffer rates without bottoming out? if fitting 16" wheels will end up
with:
1. the stock car looking like a pajero
2. the stock shocks can't take aftermarket springs
i'd rather not go ahead with it until i can spare the cash to do so.
thanks for the tire tips though!
