Tan Mae Lynn - 25 January 2005
The New Paper
IF you own a Toyota Rav 4, Toyota Harrier or a Lexus RX300, don't drive
it into Malaysia.
The risk of it being stolen there is high.
This warning comes from Singapore's largest motor-insurance company, NTUC
Income, which has noticed a trend of thieves targeting these cars.
Between January and November last year, Income received 100 claims for
stolen vehicles, with the majority of these arising from thefts in
Malaysia.
The figure is an increase from the 85 cases for the same period in 2003.
An Income spokesman said about six in 10 of the cars which went missing
were one of these models. Other cars made up the remaining 40 per cent.
Of the total number of these three models stolen, 70 per cent were
Harriers or RX300s.
