I have just installed Locktech in my Camry. I find it good and
convenient. But I am concern about the shift-lock. The car can still be
driven (not so easy but possible) using the shift-lock button.

Wandering any Sifu out there have a solution to disable Shift-lock
button? Can the accesories store do it? BTW, I don't understand the
purpose of having shift-lock button. I don't see the need for it unless
the break sensor to the gear is mulfunction.

Feedback appreciated.

Camrian,

I presume your salesman did not tell you what it is for?

Simple, safety purpose. Traditionally automatic gear lever can be pull
without stepping on your brake. This pose to be a problem when the car is
idle, a kid can actually press the gear release button and pull down to R
or N or whichever not. It has become a safety features for most(not all),
automatic gearbox car, to have shift lock thesedays.

You still can disable it, provided you need to remove the casing and
disable the cable.

hi Sifu,

Thank you for your prompt feedback. I understand the safety feature of
having to suppress the break before enabling the shifting of gear from P
to other positions. But what is the purpose of the Shift-Lock button
while we can step on the break? In case the break sensor is not working
and we cannot engage the gear?

thank you

the autolock will activate when you want to shift from P to other
lever..e.g. R, N, D, 2 or L....

the autolock will not function from R to N or N to D or any lever except
P. but you need to press your brakes in case your car move...after you
accidentally bang somebody...

or are you referring to the lever on the gear knob? you want something
like in bmw cars (especially the 5 series)? that option is available on
really expensive cars (selected cars I would say....bmw, ferari,...)

even you had disable Shift-lock, the thief still can short the brake
cable singal(above the brake padel), to cheat the Shift-lock and still
can shift!!

You only can delay the thief, but if they really want to take your car,
they still gonna to do it !!
