New to the forum...so please go easy `k:)
Anyways,just got engaged last Dec,my fiancee`s really working his socks
off saving up for our marriage...in fact, he`s so into it that he`s put on
hold his idea of getting an XBox.....so thought i`d get him an XBox
instead for his b`day...coming up on 12 Feb...prob is...he`s knows
everything bout it,while i just know it`s sorta someting like the PS2, of
which i have no idea also btw:)i know i`m really dumb...but that`s why i`m
asking....
went around sg wang, bukit bintang, times square, imbi with my girlfriend
over the weekend to shop around...was blown away...i mean there are so
many kinds of XBox...the black one(the original i guess), the white
crystal one & the one which says Action Pack on the box...what gives?!?!?!
also all of em have chines characters on the box...does this mean it`s not
original? from taiwan? could somebody please tell me what`s diff among the
3?? which one should i buy??? can`t i get the original in m`sia?
also, what`s important to me(!) is that the XBox should be able to play
DVDs....not just the original ones, but also movies that I`ve downloaded,
mostly in divx format...is this possible?? is it standard or an add-on
that i gotta pay more?
the best deal i got (or so i think, as i`m sure they ripped us off-seeing
2 girls who know practically nothin bout this XBox thingy!!!) was in sg.
wang.....a small shop on the 2nd floor....the original XBox with one
controller for RM600....the other shops quoted RM650-RM680 for the Action
Pack....while some quoted RM720 for the crystal white one...which i think
is the most beautiful:)....also the DVD remote cost RM38 and another
controller cost RM70...both in the small shop in sg wang....which i think
gave me the best offer...u think i could bargain more?tell me what u guys
think please....planning to buy it this weekend....btw, anybody know of
shops in melaka...would be a whole lot easier for me!!! wouldn`t have to
go down to big bad kl for this.....
really sorry for this loooong first post...but i`m really

It's so nice of you get him the Xbox... and its a wise choice too. Please
read the past topic for reference...

You can get the Xbox from eric81 for a good price with lots of games. Or
get the Crystal Xbox only. DONT BUY THE BLACK XBOX... the black version
is the old model with problems, many games cannot run on that machine due
to the cd lens. Don't buy the Xbox remote control... unless you got xtra
money. You can watch DVD by just using the controller. Make sure when you
buy the new Crystal Xbox, there are 2 contollers in it. Some shop will
try cheat you by giving only one. And not forget to ask for warranty from
the shop you bought the Xbox. Lastly dont buy crap games for your
fiancee, refer to GameSpy.com or GameStop.com for reviews of Xbox games.

unit. but, just for my curiosity, how much are u selling it for?u can send

fakri, i was under the impression that the crystal x-box is a limited
edition one n not in the market anymore...the ones u see in the shops
today are most likely second hand models...is this true...got this info
from one the shops in sg wang...
last weekend i went to sunway pyramid to look as well....average price was
around rm 850....how come it's so much cheaper in sg wang?! i'm really
worried bout buying from this place...what do u guys think?
goin to buy it this weekend, so any help is most definitely
appreciated....thanks again guys!

Yes, the Crystal XBox is the limited edition and its the LATEST version
in term of faster loading time for the games, latest mod-chip and most of
all, can play all the latest games. It's still in the market and again,
get this latest version only. If the salesman tries to sell you any Xbox
other than the Crystal saying that all Xbox is the same, he lied and
trying to get rid of all the old and problem version in stock.

Why the Xbox in Sunway Piramid is expensive then Sg. Wang?? Its because
the salesman knows that the people who come there have lots of money
especially tourist. So they can put higher price to get more PROFIT. One
more thing, in S.Piramid, as I know, there are only 3 shops which sell
Xbox and there is less competition in term of price. I even find out
that, out of the 3 shops, 2 are all from the same TAUKEY <boss>. Compare
to Sg.Wang there are more than 15 shops which sell Xbox, more than 5
taukey... so they have to attract the people to buy from them.
Lasty, due to the rent in S.Piramid is expensive... the price is a bit
higher.

Like I mention ealier, make sure you get the warranty from the shop, if
any problem with the Xbox, the shop must be responsable.

I think, it's way much more easier/cheaper to get the Xbox from where you
are, that is Melaka. The cost to come to KL <petrol, toll, parking and
time> is consider a lot. Anyway, I wish you Good-Luck and get the best
bargain/price for the Xbox.

hi all sifu, i just got my crystal xbox.....but i found that when i press
the eject button to power on it, the left LED didnt light up, n cant
detect CD, this happen also if i press(not hold) power button. It working
fine if I press and hold the power button to power on. Any idea why this
happen??

This is the first time I heard that you can get a free termos with Xbox.
It's up to you if you want to buy the Xbox in Melaka, its a bonus to get
the termos actually, heheheh.

p.s. Dont forget to bring a long the list of games, or not you end up
buying the crap ones. Have fun shopping!!

yhtan - it seems you got problem with your Xbox. Just send it back to the
shop where bought it, make an angry face and ask to replace it with a new
one.

I`m new to this, and did some comparing myself recently.

What mfakri said about the black box Xbox may have some truth in it.
After recently spending a whole day surveying all the Xbox shops in Sg
Wang (phew!), my conclusion:

1) All black box Xbox are manufactured in 2003 or earlier. The shopkeeper
will insist it`s still brand new.. wah, new stock can sit around for 2
years meh? Hmmm...

2) These black box Xbox may have trouble running some games despite
having the same mod chip as the latest Limited edition models. You will
be required to switch it off and on again to get some games running.
Highly annoying.

3) Some black box Xbox can play wither NTSC or PAL games only.

4) Shopkeepers will resort to all sorts of bullsh!t to move the stock.
They`ll quote something as outrageous as RM680 for a unit... then after
getting you hooked, they`ll say oh it costs another RM100 to add the mod
chip..

To date, the most current version are the blue box special edition Xbox
(crystal box ones no more liao). All of them are manufactured in 2005.
They seem to be far better and more reliable than the black ones... at
least you can play any game and switch to another game without any of the
switching-off-and-on-again shenanigan.

RM750 is the best quote I got for the blue box (me not much of a haggler)
from a shop at the IT center (BB Plaza?). Not as cheap as I hoped, but I
guess anything`s better than putting up with the conmen in the Xbox
booths in Sg Wang...

Congrats on getting the XBOX. Infact you got the limited edition Blue UK
version. Is it the Halo2 Pack?? I've read somewhere, in UK, the blue
version is actualy Dead Or Alive Pack. Anyway, that's not important, as
long as you are happy with memory-card-free-Xbox... heheheheh.

p.s. the cool part of the Xbox... you can play the Co-Op game in DooM-3.
So much FUN!!.
