Dear Laptop & Gadget Kaki`s forummers.

1st of all, i would like to declare that im not that computer expert
since the days when i decided not play games. Back in 1993 - 2004, i am
considered an intermediate game freaks, when in comes to PC, i played
the very 1st NFS, Full Throttle - RPG game by Lucas way back in 1995,
Starcraft biggest fans, Medal of Honors, The CnC, Abe Oddworld &
Oddesey....infact my 1st strategy games was Dune2000, i was crazy with
war games....during my teenagers & college days, sometimes on certain
Saturday nite whenever my friends asked me to go out for hang at
happening places...i will said like this: tak boleh, i nak berperang
lah...i used to work in a PC shop after SPM assemble the PC`s, fammiliar
with Dx2-66, Dx400, Cyrix, the old 586 till Pentium MMX with the old main
board which still using jumpers, Socket 3, Socket 5 & Socket 7, mpeg card
(hahahah) using Quantum Bigfoot as my hardrives and Panasonic something
with 730mb space as a secondary storage, which they call it "MULTIMEDIA
PC" infact im still keeping my 5 1/2 disk floppy from my 1st 8088
desktop, my win 3.1, 3.11 3disk installer, my Armour antivirus & 13pcs of
diskettes for my 1st Win95...the days of piracy yang sungguh berleluasa,
hehe...i still have my MS-dos ver6.2 heheh...

as a gamers i am so anti notebook, my very last desktop purchased in 2003
thru my closed friend (im no longer fammiliar with SlotA at that time)was
P4 2.0Ghz with 80G HDD, 20g of secondary storage Nvdia GForce 4 MX320,
1ghz of SDram, Samsungs mouse, Samsung monitor, Samsung CDrom & Samsung
CDRW, and my most proud Altec Lansing 45.1....basically some of the spec
no longer there due to burned mainboard, damaging some of the hardware
and the ram now only functioning at 768mb...funny...the pc was last
maintained by my old friend named A4dave which is one of this AW
forrumer, i think he also got fedup to see my system...kekeke

anyway...those days are over....due to work and the important of
technology, i vow myself to Laptop..

recently, i bought IBM Lenovo S10 Netbook(which bought less than a month,
looks like been using for 1year oredi, its pearlwhite, very smart but i
like the funky pink actually, very reddish alloy, reccomend that color if
u guys interested with it) weighs only 1.09kg, with from 80GB to 160GB
SATA HDD,built in 512mb ram and add 2ghz ram, it got all the features i
wanted and quite happy with it becoz what i need at this point of time is

a. to do some word processing
b. to surf and download some important things and to manage my future
website
c. some entertainment
d. mobility
e. keep myself up todate with the latest PC & gadget technologies...

the only flwas is where the batt life only last for 2.5hrs (heard got
6pack batt soon which gonna last 6-7hrs...when China boleh, definitely
Malaysia also boleh!)...

i wanted to opt for Asus 901EEEPC Intel Atom 1.6Ghz with 6pack batt that
able to standby for 7hrs, fully abuse will last up to 4-5hrs...but
netbook is way too fast to catch up, it never obsolete, out of sudden the
latest netbook will simply vanish from the market...and replaced with
Asus1000Hto be honest...

i started to jatuh cinta with Dell Inspiron Mini 9, eventhough with 8GB
SSD, few of my supplier & another 2 of my friends which also a netbook
fan told me the Transcend 64GB SSD MLC is now sold at RM699, which within
another 3mths the price will definitely drop between the region of >RM300
<RM450....

I keep track with the followings too:
- Twinmate TwinMate E10
- Samsung NC10
- ASUS S101
- Mouse Computer; a replica of Asus901 but not wether got in msia or not

but im not interestted with Msi Wind and Acer Aspire...tak bes ( which
pronounce as bass, heheh)

but the issue here is not about me....

Its about one of my worker, a very young and humble 21yr old chap, from a
trainee which now has been absorb as my closest and most important
assitant,to assist me in almost everything...i have this difficulties;an la sQ5Dear Laptop & Gadget Kaki`s forummers.

Frankly i would stay away from netbooks whatever...lets cut out gaming as
we all know netbooks can't 'game'.

So reason for me not to get?
1.Screen to small...I tend to get claustrophobia with small screen. 12 inch
is the most minimum with me. Don't laugh...7 inch is too small.
2.Keyboard will be crappy, yup, you'll get used to it, but some ppl never will.
3.Cheapish stuff...I've NEVER trusted cheap laptops...from any brand, the
word is unreliable. Hardware and software after all until all those junks.
4.I think i've got enough computer around my world. 1 gaming 17inch laptop
and 12 ultra portable is enough for me.

If you still wanna get a 'netbook', I recommend those 12~13inch
ultraportable instead. You can do hell lot more with it and you can use one
computer instead of a few. It will cost you RM3500 to get one of those.
Another option is older units you can get bargain price for.
But thats just me.

Mr.Sazali..

thanks for ur reminder....i almost bought it in the 1st place....

anyway....i bought the right 10" screen mini laptop weighs 1.1kg, 20Gb
HDD and 512ram...becoz i got it at so reasonable price....i just gave it
to my worker...he is very very happy now....nevermind la....just a gift,
if he feels happy, same goes with me....

anyway check out this:

http://www.twinhead....p?productid=298
&
http://www.twinhead....p?productid=268

i introduce this to my big bro for his work...
since he is doing insurance, always travel and carry files for the last
13years, he always depend on his PDA phone and his home desktop for his
insurance software...

so..i told him to get one fo these for the following reasons:

- small & liteweight-easy to carry
- able to surf at any wifi area whenever he wait or with his clients
- he can keep track on latest news and whats going on in the net & the
most updated technologies
- enuff for word processing, insurance software, so he can do his job
immediately instead of doing it at home or at his office
- some musics and movie downloads, some basic entertainment la...
- can synchronize and backup his PDA phone files like contacts &
appointments, customer details and such emmediately,

which same goes with me, not all need the best & the most super power pc,
we dont use it for games, picture rendering, watching dvd movies, CAD/CAM
engineering software, graphic design or whatsoever....so i dont see any
reason why should spend so much on the state of the art laptop, the
netbook shud serve the purpose, affordable and to me the most important
is when the thing is so tiny and easy to carry is where i needed most,
most of my working software also are not require that kind of powerful
system...

netbook & mini laptops has its own fans nowadays, but some of my friend
who are us to 14" min screen size of laptop dont really fancy
netbook...they said like "tak puas pegang" something like that...

i dont know, different people have different desire, purpose &
satisfactions i think? i prefer netbook rather than laptop...

anyway, soon the Asus S101 will be available locally, price range around
2.2k-2.5k....Asus 1000H also now selling at 1.8k - 2.1k depend on the
storage & memory capacity....

i hope the 120-160gb SSD will cost lower as below rm400 within a year,
couldnt wait to make my system lighter....

Yes, different people have different needs. The Nettop appears to suit
people who would use it only as a secondary device while they are mobile.
They would normally use more powerful desktops at home or at work. They
will also not use PDAs cos they are too small, too fiddly and too
expensive. So now, everyone can compute!

I nearly wanted to get an EeePC too but with Windows XP version. Somehow,
the Atom chip being as it is, it is not powerful enough for my work, which
juggle between PABX programming, Excel, Word, CAD and so on. Therefore, I
have no other choice but to go for the more beefy Notebooks soon.

However, as they say, if you're only in for Internet and Songs and
Pictures, the EeePC is for you.

id go for asus 10inches ones. 1000h. should come down in price. 7inch will
be a pain to use. personally i'd go for the hp1000. SSD is too expensive.
data is safe on a normal laptop hd. ssd is overrated and seagate hasnt
entered the fray so the tech is still a long way to go as in price. 10 or
20gb is not enough. even though u think he will be ok with 7gb.

only people who are used to linux should get linux equipped laptops. its
worth it to get xp version for the performance and spec upgrades.

not sure about price in msia but acer and hp should be able to come up
with some 15inch cheap laptops. in pthe price range of eeepcs.

Met a group of lecturers recently. They use notebooks a lot. They all are in agreement. Acer is good when new but sucks long term in terms of reliability.

yes... acer is the worst ...

spec is nice, but reliability is another story.
