Hello Alfa owners,

I'm currently searching for something different to drive after owing a
Proton and was wondering if the Alfa 164 is a decent car to drive and own?
I saw one at PJ's Sunday mart yesterday and it was going for RM12k. Is
that the normal price for this car? However the interior leather has worn
out (colours faded) and overall signs of wear and tear (not too serious).
The engine was replaced in 2004 and I am impressed with the power
delivery, instant and powerful (road tax for 1 year is just over 2k). Just
wondering if it's going to cost me a bomb to upkeep and maintain?

Thanks for your comments, will know by this week if I`m going to get it
coz I`m deciding between a BMW e36 or this alfa. The Alfa needs more work
but costs a lot less.

Are u driving an Alfa before this Pininfarina? This is my first experience
with an Alfa just wanna make sure I`m making the right decision.

May I know why 164? If it's e36 you are comparing, isn't it 155 more
comparable?

I have a reason for you to get 155. Because I am selling mine..... Smile

I guess the main reason is the price difference, for a top of the line 3.0
manual v6 at slightly over 10k and great performance with good looks over
the more expensive but newer E36 with better fuel consumption but less
power. Also with the 3.0 litre engine I don't need any further
modifications to increase power as it's power delivery is more than
sufficient.

One of the reason why I'm considering the E36 is due to a few facts :-
1) It has lots of potential for modification
2) Parts are more readily available
3) It's a RWD - can be set up for the occasional drifting sessions
4) It's a manual - I prefer manual over auto

The 155 is also a nice car but I think the price should be very close to
the BMW right?

1) It has lots of potential for modification
This is up to the individual but I always prefer stock standard unit.
Mine is a 1996 2.0 litre 16 valves TS wide body. In its original form the
springs have already been lowered by 15mm. Older 155 is much higher. Some
owners actually further lower their cars. Other modification options are
abundant.

2) Parts are more readily available
155 should be the same, with regular supply of reconditioned parts as
well as new ones.

3) It's a RWD - can be set up for the occasional drifting sessions
Ah..this is too bad for 155. It's front wheel drive.

4) It's a manual - I prefer manual over auto
All 155's are manual. Mine has one of the best maintained gear boxes in
town. No Selespeed worry.

If you are looking at slightly over RM10K, 155 may be out of reach but we
never know. I have seen some used car dealers taking in at around that
price but of course, when they resell, the price tags are different.

This is just for sharing. I am selling mine in the north. Do check out my
car for sale at:

Good luck.

cool, the 168 is the new version after 164 right? Was it the 3.0(m)
version as well? I think 168 sounds much nicer in chinese..hehehh I don`t
suppose there`s anyway to convert the 164 to 168 other than changing the
logos? Btw can spare parts for the 164 be found easily? Eg from halfcut
shops

I might be going to the Sunday mart again this week just to have a look :)
Most of the prices there are lower than Motor Trader prices so it seems
like a better deal. If you`re going can u help have a look at the 164 for
me? I`m not familiar with alfas so I`m not sure how to check for the tell
tale engine signs. I only know that some wear and tear interior parts need
repair/replacement. Drinks on me la :)

There is no diffence between 164 and 168..only malaysia/singapore/taiwan
using emblem 168...164 came with 164 L and Super series...Super series is
the one you mention the new version

Spare part no problem...halfcut shop at
klang/puchong/subang/sunway/kajang have spare part for 164...dont
worry...and you are not changing spart part everyday like having tea
tarik....and ebay.com have a lot alfa 164 part and you can order online..

Ok if you going there the saleman name albert ( the fat guy )he know
me..coz he like alfa and he is good friend of Mr Fadil ( Police Officer
Pangkalan Hulu)

He approch me to take the car last sunday but I am not interested to
having alfa 164 and ullysee at the same time..no Parking..

If you look for another 164 ( 3.0 manual/auto/2.0./Super) call Ron Lim at
Lambogini Malaysia Sunway...he have a few stock at his showroom...Big Smile

The 164 is a unique car for its looks, interior and performance. But you
must have the Passion and Patience to maintain it. Bro pinin is more
experienced in alfa ownership...so seek his wise words.
