here's a few things that strikes me about the dmax :-

NVH - very very good actually. can barely hear the tyre noise. the
goodyear wrangler that came with it was excellent for tarmac driving.
engine noise also very low at high speeds (120km/h). no wind noise
whatsoever too.

STABILITY - not bad for a pick-up. highway driving was a blast. felt
confident at high speed. little body roll.

HIGH QUALITY FITTINGS - yes it's a thailand car but with jap quality.
except for a few minor hiccups like glove compartment lining slightly no
align at the side and driver sun shade cover slighty tore the side (thus
exposing the sponge inside), overall it was of high quality. everything
was solidly built. even better than my getz.

PERFORMANCE - even with only 79hp, after the break in period i felt like
i was driving a totally different pick-up.Big Smile no more a tank but like a
car. accelaration was tons better at all gears. felt the engine was
definately more willing and raring to go. mileage now at 1200km++.

FC - ok b4 left Penang, pumped RM73.10. 1st full tank (b4 break in) was
709km (45%city/55% highway) making it 9.69cents/litre or 12.42km/litre.
speeds during break in period was 80-100km/h. expect it to be much better
after break-in.

Spawnster,

Are you saying your car runs only 709km for a full tank?

vk9, rd tax is RM1070/year.

no2proton, 709km actually not full tank. still got about half of 1/4 mark.

yesterday had to pump oledi at petronas. mileage 808.1km. fuel indicator
at last mark. assume diesel at RM84 for 65.57litres = 0.10cents/litre or
12.32km/litre. 50%highway/50%city driving. 35% was still at break in
period. driving was more aggressive than before.Big Smile crusing at 100 -
120km/h.

was the FC up to expectation. not really cos test was much much better
than what i'm getting now. but since they run at only 60km/h (i'm sure no
hard revving like me) i don't expect to get that good FC. hopefully now
that it's fully break in i'll get better FC.

In real life, after engine break-in, you may not get better FC. Reason is
because you drive more gently before break-in and more agressively after
breakin leading to higher FC. My experience.

Totally agreed with you..even with 800km/tank already more than
appreciated..
To whom still considering, this was my point when decided to go with
dmax..
FYI, I'm initially struggling to choose between dmax and hilux..but
settled down with dmax, which received last week..totally relieved after
made the right choice for myself..

1) I'm no off-roader..
2) Cornering better than hilux
3) Ergonomic Design, suit to my size..(others dont know)..
4) passenger space almost same as hilux
5) Cheaper due to 4x2 (hilux=4x4), Cheaper maintenance too..
6) Better fuel consumption, even without Common Rail tech..

Chiao..
