Hi all,

I'm interested to purchase a second hand 1997 Jeep Grand Cheroke..
was quoted for RM50k for a limited version and could someone advise what
are the market value for a year 1997 model and is there anything that I
should be cautious such as spare parts and etc.

Also, please share with me some of your experiences such as ride,
handling, off road and fuel compsumption.

Hi Rock,

I have a Cherokee, not the Grand Cherokee but did a bit of reading on this
make.
The ride is comfortable, very capable for off-road and very thirsty (this
is 4 litre, right?)
Over the years, there are able mechanic to service the vehicle and as of
parts, there are some chop shops around the vicinity to source for parts
or can order from the internet.
I do not know the market value but I suggest you do some scouting just to
verify the 50K.

Regards,

I agree with suKEReta. I know spare parts are a problem and most people I
know take a yearly trip to Thailand. The parts are still available there.

Have a look at www.motortrader.com.my....theres a couple for sale in
there.

hi

I am guessing Gotoy means m o t o r t r a d e r (remove space), due to
autofilter by AW team.

I am not a Jeep enthusiast, but that Grand Cherokee did grab my attention
for a while while scouting for my ride. Eventually settle for its famous
rival across the Atlantic. However, I do know it has the smoothest and
cleverest set of gearbox compared to later model Lcruiser,Disco,Pajeros
and Isuzus. Its has fantastic articulation, nearly as good a disco and a
bulletproof engine. The down side is not so favorable FC compared to
petrol powered rivals. The build is good and the name Jeep is almost
second to none, he he..

There was a god comparo by Overlander Mags lonngg time ago. Let me see
weather I could dig that one out and summarized the conclusion , based on
their testing.

I definitely like the car.

Hi Sukereta and all,

Thank you for the sharing. Was wondering what are the fuel consumption
for a 4l model ? are we expecting something like 20cents per km -
something like Naza Ria ?

Hi,

I think the FC is about 19 mpg (Sorry only know FC in term of mpg ;)).
The FC is the only drawback about this vehicle. However, having said
that, most 4X4 does not give favorable FC.

I have the normal Cherokee, the 4.0L.

Currently i get about 300kms from a RM90 tank of the cheapest regular
Mobil petrol i can get.

This is pretty spirited driving though. The good think about the 4.0L is
that it can really sprint. I joke that i can get 0-100s in 10s and 1L of
fuel. On long, steady runs down to JB for example, i can clear 400km or
more from that same tank.

The Grand may be a little worse than this since it is heavier but lets
face it when you are arguing between either 18mpg or 19mpg it makes no
real sence... they both suck. Everytime i sit on the sofa or see cars in
other countries when i am overseas i always think, well maybe i'll swap
it for a Storm or Ranger when i get home save some money on fuel and road
tax (currently at RM3,240 per year). Everytime i floor the accelerator on
my return home however, i change my mind.Big Smile
