Guys,

I am planning to get a used, hardy 4x4 for work use. Need to carry some
cargo. And I am considering the LC II and Isuzu Trooper UBS.

I am not sure what the model is actually called, but it is the older
version of the Trooper which we currently have now. They come in petrol,
and rarely, i can see some diesel ones on sale. Price is around RM8 -
15k. Please let me know the actual model name if you have.

How do these Troopers (petrol and diesel) perform in terms of
reliability, fuel consumption, parts availability, air-con reliability
and basic 4x4 performance (as in whether it is able to take on some
gravels, slopes typical of farm lands).

Thanks a lot for your help. Appreciate it.

Diesel engine. Trooper better than Toyota.

Chassis. Toyota better than Isuzu.

For your purpose, I reckon Toyota LC II is a better option primarily due to
chassis toughness and more readily available spare parts.

AFAIK, all types of Trooper comes with UBS designation for both petrol and
diesel.

For diesel, current is UBS69. Previous is UBS55. Oldest is UBS52.

Thanks Tourist.

For the same comparison, what is your take on Mitsubishi Pajero L047
petrol and diesel?

Hey thanks a lot for your time.

This is my personal opinion.

I will still pick LCII for your kind of purpose.

Diesel engine. Isuzu beats Toyota and Mitsubishi in durability, economy and
reliability. Toyota's beat Mitsubishi's. The Isuzu 4JB1-T 2.8L runs circle
around the other 2. But make sure the turbo has been well maintained aka
correct engine oil and clean air filter often. My previous one has 1/2
million km on the odometer and still run like a dream.

Chassis. Toyota is king. Mitsubishi 'may' be slightly better but I have no
first hand experience so don't quote me on that.

Spare parts. Toyota is king again. Mitsubishi parts are probably most
expensive (original parts). Plus there are many non-original Toyota parts
available.

IMO, Isuzu are much under-appreciated and hence, lower resale value. A
better value buy than Mitsubishi Pajero L047. But if you do extreme or
hardcore off road, you should still have a look at the Toyota LCII.

On the other hand, LCII has poor on tar road dynamic and more prone to
overturing when driven fast around corner. Isuzu is anytime more stable &
sharper handling than LCII and also slightly better than Pajero.

got you. i don't do serious off road, only very very mild non-tarmac
roads. I need a 4x4 because of space and also sometimes these non tarmac
road can be a little slipery.

if you still have contact with your Isuzu buddies, mind letting me know
if anyone is disposing theirs?

Thanks again.
