Does anybody know if the new toyota hilux engine can be mounted into a
landcruiser? By toyota engine I mean the 2.5L turbo diesel engine.

Hey GoToy,

No one else replied yet? I was also interested to see what people would
say about doing this, especially in view of the fact that the Hilux was
only recently introduced with the D4-D (2KD-FTV, I think) engine. How did
you get one (engine or half-cut)?

As for mounting it in a LC, I haven't a clue, sorry!

I don't have the engine yet, but you can get them as an import spare.
There has been the cases where the hilux 2.8D engine has been fitted into
landcruiser, especially the swb version. I would think it would be easier
to find a 2.8D engine. The fit the hilux gearbox into a landcruiser
rewuires some modifications to the transmission tunnel, so its probably
just worth fitting the new engine direct onto the original landcruiser
gearbox.
I have also heard many cases of the Prado 3L engine and gearbox being
fitted into the landcruiser...very nice but at almost 20k, its a little
steep...but worth it of course!!!

Well I have some research to do about the hilux engine, and hopefully
some more duded will most here.

Had a word with my regular workshop yesterday, he also advise I should
buy a half cut. So ok lah, I go for a hilux 2.8 half cut.

Abin, do you know the name of the place in Nilai?

I amstill toying with the idea of just buying a recon 5 speed box and
keeping the original 2.5L engine. One is due to finances and the other is
due to JPJ! If I put the 5 speed box soon after CNY, I can always upgrade
to a 2.8L later as finances allow. I was thinking of fitting a turbo
and/maybe an intercooler to my 2.5 once the 5speed is installed.
Actually, I am thinking would an extra 300cc make a lot of difference?
JPJ would be higher too. Plus my current 2.5L is quite strong and I like
the idea of having the original engine.

If I just go for the 5 speed box, now, I can also alter the gear ratios.
