hi,

Intend to buy DMAX 2.5 manual for daily use. Hope someone can give some
advice here.

I am driving Honda City idsi currently, daily use RM30 petrol can go for
180KM.

Still compare DMAX with Toyota Hilux. Different 20K, quite a lot too !

1. Is it really save in terms of fuel consumption ?

2. Most people voted Hilux over Dmax, Hilux really that good ?

3. How much is the Canopy for DMAX or Hilux ?

4. Honda City switch to DMAX/Hilux for daily use, is it worth ?

Thanks.

1. Basically Diesel consumption is lower than Petrol.
However, IDSI should achieved 14KM/Little from my boss. COz he got the
same idsi city. Hilux, the new type can archieved 14KM/Little too, but in
terms of maintenance and road tax no point going for it axcept you will
use it offroad. FYI over 120km/h should get 12KM/L or less for the Hilux.
If not misstake, Honda first 40K should FOC for oil changing, pls note
that diesel pickup need 7L for engine oil and it is not FOC. 40K
maintanance for auto Hilux need 1200 and manual for 900. Normal services
is around 200. Not cheap.
DMax 2.5 seems more economical in term of millage compare with Hilux,
maintenance cost. Maybe overall is almost close to maintain your City.
One thing for sure is diesel engine is more last longer than petrol car.

2. Hilux have a handsome looking both external and internal. I owned it
and really confortable for rear seat, just like a sedan car. But bumpy.
Good ? just personal experieces, not that tuff as you taught. Even came
with latest diesel tech engine, the truck design i am doubt for its
safety matter. If you are thinking of high speed which more than 140KM/H,
Hilux is good for speed, but beware of its balancing, really bad.
Depend, good or no good. But for me, it is not a good truck especially
for long distance driving. In town should be 100% ok. Nice looking, fancy
truck.

3. For DMAX is 3K to 4K, Hilux believed the same.

4. Not worth. Trully speaking. Coz City idsi is already saving gas and
nice car. If you like to maintance the almost same cost with bigger
vechile, Dmax might worth. Even no resell value. But Hilux, trully spend
you lot of money for just maintain the car. Even good resell value. Bur
remember maintained cost is spent b4 you sell it. Your millage should can
consider of diesel engine, but compare with City....hmm....really need to
think it well before you made your decision.

I will get my DMAX 3.0L Manual soon, my Hilux was total lost after
accident jut 8 months old. Why not go for city is becoz I will go offroad
often and not always in Highway. If you travelling national road (FOC),
probally go for pick up. More safety mar..haha. BUT FYI..In US..pick up
is one of the most risky vechile. Mean always falled into accident. Seems
is true..coz mine previous one cannot even last for one year.

Like pickitup said, for town driving, it's not cost effective to go diesel.
The cost/km should be roughly comparable but the maintenance of diesel 4WD
is always higher then a saloon car. For example, the consumable like
filters, quantity of engine oil needed, tires etc.

Thanks for the valueble comments.

Maybe go n test drive Dmax first, then decide.
Some said the build quality in Dmax is very poor = WAJA/WIRA, is that
true?

Else, stick-to my existing Honda City-lah.

Build quality ?

Please note that DMax is one of the famous pick up in South East Asia.
The quality is there.

Feel more confident for your new vechile before you buy. If not, you
never get your favourite car.

Finishing is really different compare a fully imported car with local
assembly car. 1st the cost, 2nd users requirement. M'sia most users are
looking for car that 1st save gas, 2nd tahan. Japan, they are really
interested in finising, coz they have more choices than us.

Even City, the finishing is ecceptable level. Japan spec is different.

Wira/Waja is build for these market. Therfore DMax and others low range
vechile.

And remember the car body for Japs manufacturers almost the same sources.
Nittetsu, Kawasaki etc. They are the world players of matelic.

Hi Pickitup,

I read your commets on this subject. I have one simple question for you.
You have used Hilux 2.5 for nearly 2 years and you wrote it off in an
accident (with a cow? I get this from other thread - mtrtradr forum, if u
r the same guy). And you said that you gonna buy D-Max 3.0 soon. What
make you choose D-Max after 2 years with Hilux?

Thanks very much.

8 months ago, brand new Vigo. Not 2 years.

1st Services like Sh---.
2nd Even is nice looking and comfortable interior, safety still an issue.
3rd Very not stable especially running on raining days, slip easily.
4th FC so so and the noisy sound came after three months.

Shift to DMax
1st Isuzu famous for diesel engine, even old engine for maintenance
purpose i choose it.
2nd Should more safety than Vigo even lousy interior.
3rd My dad use a Tropper for 20 years, no big issue found.
4th If service like Sh-- I still have alternative way to select 3rd party.

Main -> Owned it and crash, don't want to use it again. Coz same things
might happened....

BTW...my vigo was turn up side down during the accident. Even hit a
cow...seems really the truck is UNSafety.

I never/seldom heard this negative reported in any Reviews. Wondered why?
If it had been a Proton, you can expect hell to break loose from the proton
bashers.

This stablility issue had been known to me for years. I am onto my 3rd 4WD
and twice (in 1989 & 1999), I wanted to buy Toyota and in both cases, I
drop the idea immediately after a test drive and I have to drive pretty
fast to better judge the car's characters. The unpredictable behaviour of
the Toyota LandCruiser II (1989 model) & the Prado (1997 model) on tar road
literally scared the sh*t out of me. You never can know how the tail is
going to behave taking corners at higher speed. Yes, it's the relative lack
of stablilty issue that in both case, I ended up with Isuzu which IMHO, has
much better road behaviours.

From pickitup post, it seem the same still hold true to Vigo.

Thanks Puckitup and Tourist for the replies.

I too have test drove both 4x4, not once but twice (yes! i went to the
dealership twice to testdrive the 4x4 Vigo and D-Max as I cannot make
decision).

Like I said, the D-Max is more 'planted' to the road. More sturdy
feeling. Will be s more suited to my kelapasawit things.

Vigo is big in and out no doubt, very nice design, but feels underpower
and not very nice drivingwise. It was jumpy ride even on quite smooth
road, especially for the passengers (My wife was at the back and
complaint this, the kids too for that matter).

But D-Max is twice on roadtax and damn ugly for modern DC. Even have
small interior and short deck. The engine sounds 'rough' even new. I dont
think the length of the deck will be enough for my Honda CR250 motorcross
and mountainbikes.

These are the pros and cons as for my personal usage.

Anymore views guys?? All are welcome.
