I'm thinking of installing a digital auto turbo timer (GReddy, Apexi, or
anything else along those makes) in my Frontier. I've been to a couple of
4x4 shops but have only seen manual and analog ones. Any recommendations
of a good place where I can get this done?

Hello Ram79,

If my memory serves me right, you were contemplating about the Frontier and
lamented about the lack of ABS and AirBag on the Frontier. Mind sharing
with us how have you weighed upon your decision? And do you do off-road??
How does the Frontier fare? Can give us a write-up of the pick-up?

Turbo timer got digital, anologue, manual ones ar?? Their function is just
to delay the engine shut-down after you turn off the ignition right? How
can it be manual one some more? Sorry for my questions but hope you can
help to make me understand. Thank you very much.Smile

Hi antigen, you've got a very good memory. Yes, I finally decided to get
the Frontier, and I've been having it for about 3 and a half months now,
and if I were to rate it on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the best, I
would go for a 4.8 :-)

Ok first up, what it took for me to choose the Frontier? Well, apart from
the initial minor concerns I had about the lack of ABS and airbags, I was
actually quite set on the Frontier. And I must say now that my concerns
were largely unfounded. My driving style and the general behavior of a
SUT actually doesn't completely necessitate ABS and airbags, though it
would be good to have. But I'm not fretting about it now. I feel
confortably secure and safe driving my Frontier. :-)

I'm not a real motoring or 4x4 expert, and the Frontier is my first and
only truck, so it would be hard to form a personal objective assessment
of it, but generally on the whole, I'm more than satisfied with it, and
have grown real proud of it actually. ;) Maybe I'll be able to answer
more specific questions better.

As for the turbo timer that I'm interested in, the difference between
digital and analog are basically in terms of its display only I guess.
Usually digital ones would have both digital and analog displays. But
more importantly, an auto timer would be able to automatically calculate
the amount of idle time needed according to driving conditions, while a
manual one would require the driver to set a preferred time.

Hello Ram79,

Thank you for your feed-back and congratulations on your 4.8/5 Frontier!!
Frontier's sales even has caught TC off-guard I think. Too many times they
said the reponse to this Frontier is overwhelming.

Being only 3.5 months old surely you would not bring it for off-road but do
you have intention to bring it out to the jungle? The reason I asked this
is that during the launch, there's been a write-up about its immense torque
that is golden among all the pick-up leagues. So I just want to see how
good it is actually as I have not heard of anyone discussing about an off-
road Frontier in this forum yet.

Does the Frontier come with a turbo gauge on the dash? And thanks very much
for your clear-cut explanation about the difference between an automatic
and manual timer. This automatic timer I think would be very canggih then.
But I would be interested in what sort of signals it used to calculate the
idle time?

By the way, since we are at this. What does the manual say about idling
time after driving the Frontier? Coz I think I read somewhere along the
threads that the new pick-ups don't really need idle time. Not sure how
true is that.

Cheers.

Hi antigen, sorry for the late reply, been away on holiday. No, I don't
plan to go off-roading (I'm looking after it too well to risk scratches
and dents in an off-road trail :-)).
No, the Frontier does not come with a turbo gauge, and I don't think any
turbo diesel engine would have one as the turbo gauges are exclusively
meant for petrol variants where the boost levels are much lower.
One of the signals used by an auto turbo timer is RPM. Higher the RPM,
longer the idle time.
If my memory serves me right, the manual does not explicitly state that
the engine requires idling. I'll check it again and confirm here in a
later post. But I guess having a turbo timer wouldn't hurt.
