Don't leave out HYUNDAI MATRIX.

It also has centre-mounted meters...
but all indicators are in front of the driver.

What do you think of MATRIX's meters when compared to the VIOS?

I don't have any problems with the centre mounted meters, as long as they
are off-set towards the driver. I can 'see' the rationale behind the
placement and in practice is actually quite comfortable and sensible,
although the straight mounted ones ie. X-trail is a little strange at
first, maybe due to the width of the vehicle. I didn't hear anyone
complaining back when the Mini & Alfa were launched with the speedo smack
dab in the middle and only the tacho set in front of the driver ! Angry
It seems that the centre meters work better in smaller cars (for me).

They could possibly make a flex-console, one button on the streering wheel
and whooooooooosh, it moves to the centre, then press the button again,
whooooooooosh, it flies back to the normal position, aint it cooooooool !

I am ok with the central position generally although I wonder if it is
not so suitable for 'high-performance' drivers who may want to look
straight ahead more.

My usual concerns of instrument panels is reflections. Some manufacturers
do it well but some don't get it right most of the time. For years, I
have found most Ford panels having bad reflections and they still do
today! On some cars, the reflection can be so strong that it obscures the
display. When I ask the designers about it, they say they have done their
testing in various light conditions and there should be no issues.

It seems like a simple matter to me and what can be done is just recess
the meters deeply. The angle of the plastic dust cover is also important
and that needs trial and error to determine.

I like the centred instrument panel. Easier to read. Eye level maintain
nearer to the traffic view.

I tried it, its really good and comfortable. It gives a different feeling
when I was inside the VIOS. This design is more personal.

The design looks neat and organise. And its easier to clean too. Makes
maintenance a lot easier.

The instrument meter reading panel is exceptionally smaller than most
conventional cars. I guess some will complain its readability. As for me I
will adopt its original design intent and benefit from it. I believe its
main design intent is to reduce eye movement (roaming) when reading the
panel. Will give you my personal experience, when I get my hands on this
vehicle soon.
