Hi bmiph,

Yup, there is a filter for the ATF. If you were to remove the ATF pan,
you will be able to see it. It's approximately 4" x 6" in size and it's
flat about 6 to 7 mm thk. It's made of metal with very-very fine mesh to
filter any comtaminants in the ATF.
For most auto cars, these filters must be replaced at periodic intervals
recommended by the manufacturers. However for our Unsers, it looks like
the filters need not be replaced.I have opened up the ATF pan to inspect
the filter and found that it is clean, free from any visible contaminants.
There were some contaminants present at the 3 pcs of magnets, thats all.
From what I have gathered, the ATF in our Unsers must have been fed into
the auto box/torque converter thru the filter and the so called 'used'
ATF that comes back do not pass through the filter. So any contaminants
will be caught by the magnets and not by the filter itself.
Anyway, you can open up the pan and see for yourself. However a word of
caution, before you open up the pan, do get a spare gasket ready, just in
case it tears when you remove the pan.

cheers

Hi Crudemix,

The "X" behind the part numbers indicates that the plugs have 1.1 mm
clearence between the positive and negative electrodes.Just in case you
are not aware, the centre piece is the positive electrode and the 4 pcs
of inverted "L" surronding the centre piece are the negative electrodes.
In those common types of spark plugs there is only 1 positive electrode
and 1 negative electrode. These " Bosch super 4" has 4 of them, and thats
why it's called as such. The reason for having 4 negative electrodes is
that the current will find the fastest and most efficient path and as
such will be able to produce a better and stronger spark for complete
combustion. The other good thing about these types of plugs is that they
last mighty long. Ok lah enough of all these mumbo jumbo. The reason for
getting the ones marked with an "X" is because our Angsa recommended plug
clearence is 1.1 mm, and the clearence for these Bosch Super 4 cannot be
adjusted, it's already fixed, unlike those common/normal plugs where one
can either knock the negative electrode closer to the positive electrode
or extend it further apart with a twist of a small screwdriver, and got to
use a feeler gauge to obtain the required clearence.

cheers.

Dear frenz,

2004 GLi Unser manual. Everytime speeding esp. on h/way normally daytime the engine produce momentary roar sound. Toyota said it is normal. Can somebody explain this? Is it normal? If not how to eliminate the sound? It is actually annoyed me.

Thanks

The noise you mentioned is actually the fan spinning at full lock. Unser uses a viscous fan, which means when cold, the fan spins freely or slower than the engine speed. When engine becomes hot, the fluid in the fan expands causing the fan to lock and spin at the same speed as the engine. That explains the intermittent roar sound.

To eliminate the noise, the only way is to convert the fan to an electric fan. I have done this and it helps to eliminate the noise and free the engine from the load of the old fan. Can get a little more power.

fishamster,
I did the conversion myself. Estimated cost around RM400. Using the fan from hyundai getz. Anyway, I'm from Butterworth, Penang.

ahk,
I drive the manual version because it is easier to control the engine power when trying to cross busy roads. Auto consumption definitely higher but for short distances not much difference. Parts are easy to source though it hardly breaks down. Simple engine, simple maintenance, parts can be darn cheap even from toyota service.
