Hi All,

If it is true that the nabira's gearbox is ZF (Nishin-Japan) then I
suggest that the oil should be changed every year or 45K km (My co. car -
Benz S320 need to change oil every 20K KM). From my experience ( previous
car being Volvo 850 )the ZF gearbox is very good but need to change the
oil regularly because of the Malaysian weather. Though the manual says
that the oil should last a lifetime, they did not mentioned how many
years!!.

To flush the gear oil and refill should take more than 4 litre. My volvo
uses up 10 litres@ rm25/litre (Dextron 3) and rm35 for labour. You must
account for the oil in the pipes and the oil cooler as well. Hence the 10
litres. Use the original or synthetic oil. Flushing should requires all
the old oil be flushed out. Draining and refilling only mixing new oil
with some old oil and could cause more damage later on.

For the timing belt, should change at 60K km max. More than that is a
gamble. If unlucky, and the belt broke, the damage done is severe and
very very expensive. NOTE: If you are driving and the engine suddenly die
of, NEVER attempt to start the engine becaue 16 valves would collapse and
bent. This would happen if the timing belt broke.

For the water pump, PLEASE use only MINERAL WATER for topping up. Tap
water contains iron and would rust the internal components. Use only
recommended coolant if necessary. My experience with mineral water or
distilled water leaves me with a very clear reservor and I did not change
the water pump for 10 years. The same goes for washer, use only mineral
or distill water.

Continental cars are beautiful car to drive but we must adapt it to the
malaysian weather. More to learn and share with everybody.

Cheerio

Hi Brickman,

Yes. Timing Belt must changed when hit 60K.
(My previous ride, I had the unfortunate incident of timing belt broke
when cruising at 100km/h. Repair amounts to SGD3K+. And that was about 7
years ago)

As for COOLANT, do buy a spare bottle from the agent. In SG, do you know
that they actually use different coolant for the X-Engine (blue)and Z-
Engine (orange) - as per the German expert that came down to SG sometimes
back. This is due to the different engine design etc. The Nbiara should
be the latter. Anyway, water will also do but coolant better.

I think u refering to Distilled water? Mineral water also
contain "mineral"(?).

Additional......nil filter change for gearbox since the filter is internal. For flushing of gearbox, amount depend
on the current state of the oil. I think it will be at least 8 liters.
