Many a times I see a flashy car rolls up and when the driver got out, I
just can't help but ask the question "How on earth does he/she afford this
kind of car?". So since most forumers here remain anonymous, I figure
this could be a good place to do a survey of "car vs. salary".
I'll start off with my figure:
First car:
used Proton Saga 1.5i Monthly Salary: RM1,800 (back in 1996)
Current car:
Toyota Vios 1.5E Monthly Salary: RM5,100 (no other side income)
Please share yours and be honest.

Don't think it's a right place to reveal income in a public forum.

ST Tee,
With your nick representing your actual name, of course you can't
participate in this survey lah. Your colleague could be reading this.
For me I don't mind revealing my salary as long as the person is not
working in the same company as I am. I'm sure the question 'How much
she/he earn?' pop up in our mind at one stage or another.

Salary alone does not provide accurate data.
Depends on other factors as well.
Maybe should ask:
How much/% extra disposable income that person has every month (after deducting all
expenses), if that person drives a Vios. That would provide a more accurate picture on
affordability.
Coz I know many people with household income >10k who cannot 'afford' a Vios and still
driving Protons. :)
