I have an AE101 1.6 manual.

Just had the timing belt, valve seal and spark plugs changed.

The engine currently runs fine.
However, the RPM reading is acting weird, it stays around 1000 even when I run up to 100km/h.
I tried revving the engine at stationary and it would only go up to about 2500 before it rev cuts?

I suspect that something is causing the faulty reading on the rpm.
What could be the issue?

Any advice from the sifus here will be much appreciated.

I have similar problem few years back.

This is usually caused by the capacitor for RPM circuit failing. The capacitor looks like a cylinder made of aluminium with a plastic cover, typically with markings that looks like ??V ?.?uF (example only, not exact value, 25V 10uF or 50V 4.7uF). Usually, you will find liquid seeping out from top or bottom of the capacitor indicating it is failing. The part is very very cheap. Change the capacitor and it should be fine.

You will need basic electronic skills to change it.

Hope this helps.

Actually you just need stiffer springs but maintain the standard damper. So change the coils to Eibach ones and you should be fine. AE111 has this problem because UMWT thinks Toyota owners prefer comfort.

Eibach don't produce AE111 coils anymore. But my fren told me that I can use Camry shocks and springs for our AE111.
Can sifus confirmed that?
