went browsing at skoda showroom. the salesperson confirms VW is coming in
next month including facelifted Gti. only gti version coming in though,
full spec but without sunroof. can't imagine golf without sunroof coz
it's so well made. price might be slightly cheaper than wald gti. new
polo dune is coming too.

Guess it is going to be a niche brand just like Alfa in Malaysia.

If they can sell the Golf GTi at about RM180,000 it may sell in acceptable
volume, certainly more than the Alfa 147 priced about the same. The Golf
GTi is a far more desirable car than the ageing 147. When AT priced the GTi
at RM220K,it still sold even though many ppl were put off by AT`s dubious
reputation.

Yeah, if you've noticed...VW Malaysia have also started advertising in the
August'06 issue of Autocar and Torque magazine.

the skoda branch manager reveals that the coming facelifted gti is 3
doors and priced around 180k to 200k. great deal!! previous wald gti
buyers should vomit blood if it's real. to add salt to wound, it's known
worldwide that 3-door version is slightly more expensive than 5-door
version.

But Malaysians prefer at least 4 doors for their cars. Will they bring in
the 5 doors GTi?
I think AT still have some Wald GTi's left. Expect some cheap sales soon.

A person who buys a Golf GTi is not the general Malaysian public.
This is a car enthusiast who probably does not worry about what is behind
him. Therefore 3 or 5 doors makes no difference.
Plus real GTis has always been 3 doors.

But it will have wider appeal with 5 doors. The Golf GTi can also double as
a family car. You can't just appeal to a niche market or you'll end up like
Alfa. With the high price of German cars, those who can afford a Golf GTi
are probably established, middle age and probably married. And yes, it is
possible to be an enthusiast and have a family.
