Hi Everyone,

I`m a newbie to this site, but I`d like to try and get some feedback from
anyone who has had any bad experiences when dealing with VW Cars Sdn Bhd
(formerly aka Cartrade).

I currently have a major issue and ongoing complaint with VW Cars
relating to a purchase of a VW Beetle, which they tried to deliver to me
AFTER being damaged in an accident. They had repaired the damage (bumper,
bonnet, inner wheel arch and side skirting) and kept on insisting I
should take the car BECAUSE IT WAS ALREADY REGISTERED under my name (they
registered it, not me) - but I refused; it`s been in an accident, no way.
After a lot of letter writing, phone calls and arguments, they then
agreed to give me a replacement but 3 days after that commitment they
informed me that they had decided to terminate the sale agreement on the
grounds that I showed `no respect and appreciation` for their efforts!
EXCUSE ME!

In addition to all of that, they actually manged (somehow) to get my loan
released to them AGAINST my consent and despite the fact I had not
accepted the vehicle. Right now I have a loan account under my name, they
have full payment for "a car" which has not been delivered to me....

Right now I am awaiting them to refund my deposits, costs paid for window
tinting, registration, number plate, car insurance etc etc and most
importantly to settle the loan account.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I first booked the car in February 2008!!

Also, just a warning to anyone who may want to purchase a Beetle, please
do check first that it is not this one.

It is a red colour (Salsa Red, 2008 VW Beetle 1.6). Details as follows:-
Registration WRC 9613 (although could change I guess)
Engine No. BFS067313
Chassis No. WVWZZZ9C8M560799

I’m not suggesting that the car should not be sold, but it certainly
should not be passed on as a brand new car after it has been involved in
an accident, hence why I’m informing you guys.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else has been subjected to this
poor level of customer service from VW Cars?

Tim,

Feel for you man. You're not the only one dissatisfied with their level of
professionalism.

I for one in the same boat as yours. You see, I was one of the very early
birds to get hold on VW Polo GTI at RM139K last June. The car was fine
except for some rattling issue that I've never expected coming from VW for
so much lauded built quality.

Recently, they've revised the price to RM119K, that's close to RM20K
difference than the original price. I'm extremely pissed off by this, I
mean, should the early birds like me be penalised that bad?

Their SC is another matter. Remember the rattling issue, I sent my car very
early morning to VW Cars PJ for rectification on rattling noise. Went there
about 4pm, was informed that they couldn't notice rattling. Are they deft
or what? My heart was even boiled having to wait another hour for my car to
come out of their work area. And when it came out, it hasn't been cleaned
at all, which the service attendant said it already has through phone.

I've faxed my letter of disappointment to them last Thursday, and now
awaiting whether they have courtesy to do something about it or not.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with VW Cars as well. I hope you
get a positive response from your letter to them, but in all honestly,
judging by the way they treat their customers I wouldn't hold my breath
waiting ;-)

I am planning to meet with someone from Volkswagen Group Malaysia this
week (assuming they agree to meet me). It's about time they realise how
damaging all of this is to their brand - hopefully they do care about
their brand and not just flooding the market with their cars.

Anyway, best of luck mate and thanks for sharing your experience too; I
hope you get a satisfactory outcome.

I feel sorry for you guys.

Dropping RM20k for the Polo GTI is a bad way of marketing the product.
It goes to show the huge profit margin for a brand new car.

If you look at my posting under the Auto-Factory thread, I am advocating
that we Malaysians should boycot buying brand new cars.

Until the day when prices are reduced to a sane level, we will be
sodomized by the powers that be who thinks we can be bullied and by car
distributors who feel they have the right to manipulate the consumer.

At the moment, I'm waiting for their reply on this matter. If nothing comes
through from VW Cars Sdn Bhd or Goh Brothers Motor Sdn Bhd (dealer I got
the car from), I'll be using newspaper as next option.

Don't kill yourself waiting for a reply from VW Malaysia. They don't even
bother replying to enquiries made at their web site.

VW Cars is a company run by an AP King who thinks he still sells BMWs. What
can you honestly expect from such a setup? Each and every time I step into
VW Cars, I feel like I have to kowtow to them to get attention. These days,
I don't even bother anymore.

Hi,

This is the reply I’ve got on 21st August 2008 from VGM

============

Dear En. Wan Mohd. Firdaus,

Thank you for your fax dated 14th August 2008 with regards to your
Volkswagen Polo GTi.

First and foremost, we regret to hear the experience that you had with your
vehicle at the service centre of one of our authorised dealers, VW Cars
Sdn. Bhd., and we would like to sincerely apologise for the predicament
that you are faced with. Upon receipt of your fax, we have contacted VW
Cars Sdn. Bhd. to better understand the situation. Based on our discussion,
it was with regret that an error was made resulting in a missed appointment
schedule with you. Nonetheless, they have assured us that they will be in
contact with you again to arrange for a second appointment and re-look into
the matter.

As for your concerns with regards to the vehicle pricing, we would like to
clarify that the retail price of the Volkswagen Polo GTi is maintained at
RM138,888 and there is no change in its pricing. However our dealers have
the ability to exercise minimal individual competitive advantages from
their operation margins. Volkswagen Group Malaysia is currently
investigating this matter and actions will be taken against them if there
is non-compliance with our policy.

We hope that the above explanation somewhat clarifies your concerns and
also, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting
the Volkswagen brand.

Sincerely,

Kelvin Khaw

My reply to VGM dated 22nd August 2008-08-29

Dear Kelvin Khaw,

Thank you for your reply on this matter. Although, I’m not sure what do you
mean by ‘missed appointment schedule’, just to clarify, the rectification
appointment was done 1 week earlier than 1st Aug 2008. Nevertheless, I’d
patiently wait for their call for second appointment to resolve the
mentioned problem. If service centre needed more than a day of
rectification, I would be fine by that as long as replacement car is available.

I’m satisfied that the VW Polo GTi pricing is still maintained at the
original value. Having said that, I feel there should be more effort to
control amounts of rebate to be given. RM19K rebate has been offered by at
least two VW Cars Sdn Bhd branches: 1) VW Cars Petaling Jaya; 2) VW Cars
Mutiara Damansara. The amount given is way too excessive which will have
negative impact on the existing owner such as myself not to mention other
VW authorised dealer. I hope VGM will investigate this matter thoroughly
and will take actions without prejudice and favour. Still, I’d further look
up for options to exercise my rights in regards to this issue.

Again, I’d like to thank you for effort to clear my concerns and I’m hoping
to have good experience with Volkswagen brand.

Regards,

Wan Mohd Firdaus bin Wan Mohd Asri

Until this date, I’ve yet to receive phone call from VW Cars or VGM on the
rectificated as promised and VW Cars are still exercising “minimal
individual competitive advantages” rebates on the car. I`ve been told
before VW Cars after-sales service are bad but never expected to be as
worst as Proton. Honestly, I’ve lost faith in them. I’ll be looking at
other marque or recond dealers in the next few years.
