There is a reality type show on the Discovery Channel called The Biker
Build-Off (pls correct me if I am wrong), in which custom (chopper) bike
builders are being pitted against one another to see who can build a
better custom bike.
Which brings me to Proton, where on page 16 of TheStar today, Proton had
taken out a full page ad in which it, among other things, says, "You have
our commitment that we are striving to make better cars."
It also says, "You have our commitment that we will ensure quality is
built-in at every stage of production. Which is why we are improving the
quality of all components - right down to power windows and switches. You
have the our commitment that we will compete with the best in the world.
Which is why we want to build it right. From the start. Proton. Daring to
dare."
Therefore, if there is a similar reality show called The Auto-maker Build-
off, where groups of auto workers from different auto makers around the
world are pitted against one another to see who can build a better car,
will Proton dare enter its auto workers to compete against say, South
Korean auto workers from Hyundai?
With a motto like "Daring to dare", Proton will certainly have no qualms
about participating in such a challenge that is also globally televised.
After all, a motto which is similar to the motto of the British SAS elite
commando unit, "Who Dares Wins", should have a triumphant meaning.

For 20 yrs., they reigned supreme...didn't have to worry about a
thing...gomen there to protect.
For 20 yrs., ignored obvious and persistent problems like the infamous
power window.
For 20 yrs., ignored customers' complaints...didn't give a hoot!
Now that their sales are dropping, they are going into PR-frenzy mode:
- telling people they are pulling their socks up
- telling people they have awoken from their slumber
- telling people they are taking drastic measures
- telling people it was all because of The Big Bad Vendors
- telling people they are monitoring their vendors
- telling people they are dropping their vendors
- and, the most amazing of all, actually admitting the PW problem,
although indirectly.
And, all this after 20 YEARS!
Only in Malaysia!

For whatever it is proton is just paying lip service to quality control
or getting its suppliers to really buck up - as no matter what the proton
still has a giood 10 years protection and of course TM or the future CEO
will still lobby for govt to further its protection for proton and as
long as the govt or people in the govt have high personal interests in
proton, protection will be extended. Hence proton will not ever push Qc
to a high level when it knows proton will still be the "cheapest" cars
due to protection.
And as can been seen even in the recent ads, that proton say it
is "striving to make quality" - note the key word is striving which it
can mean striving for another 10 or 20 yrs. Note that proton had Never
put a deadline to any of what itor TM says. Its always open-ended date
even in its ads or speeches so as never commit itself to it as there is
no set date and hence it can always have a good excuse.

Proton's press ads all talk gempak... daring to change lah.. striving to
make better cars lah... Malaysia boleh lah... but flip a few pages in the
same newspaper, you read about Proton begging for another 10 years of
protection!!!
Proton.. they can go ###### themselves lah...
