Stop Buying Brand New?

getting carried away with new models coming to our shore, and they are
not cheap to begin with!
Boycott all brand new cars......it is just too costly for us Malaysians.
Buying brand new cars simply mean you are directly supporting the
authorities's continued implementation of high excise duties, taxes,
etc........
Don't say it's your money and you have the right to buy brand new cars.
This is not about having the money and splashing it. This is about your
future generation...this is about the whole nation in years to come.
Everytime you buy a brand new car, you are sending out wrong messages to
the powers that be. The authorities feels that they have got away with
the fact that the rakyat have accepted that excise duties, taxes are a
part of the Malaysian life.
Soon, RM2.70 for petrol will be a way of life too....
We Malaysians are a lot that forgets easily and fast and are forgiving.
We must continue to remind the govt to reduce the petrol prices through
any means possible.
We must keep on fighting to remove all excise duties and taxes.
We must show our solidarity and postpone all new car purchases......
We must refrain from buying brand new Protons, as we have been raped for
far too long by the powers that be. Why must you pay over RM100k for a
1.6 litre foreign car, just because we need Proton to survive? Till
today, it still is in the dolddrums. Why should we help the national car
when they can't progress after over 20 years in the business. Why should
we be punished for the sins of the national carmaker?
Why should we care if someone in a Malaysian, Japanese or European
automotive company loses his job, if we stop buying brand new cars?
What I'm implying in not buying new cars, may not guarantee that car
prices will be cheaper in the future, but it definitely cannot be more
costly if demand is bad!
In any case, there are second hand cars if you can't afford a brand new
one!
For far too long, we have become victims from the regulations imposed by
the powers that be which have stretched our patience and limits through
the years while others make a living out of our tolerance.
Let's start this campaign today -
No new cars today for the betterment of tommorow!
How long ? I can't say for sure....hopefully long enough till we see some
sane pricing!

Well, if we stop buying brand new for the next 3 years, yes there would
not be lesser used units later, probaably 5 years from today.
But right now, if we buy a used unit, a relatively good condition unit
will last at least for 5 years.
Still, there will not be a total wipeout of brand new units. Merc or BMWs
or high end cars will still be purchased by companies.
But if we can resist the temptation of purchasing new cars, imagine, how
the auto-industry will react within a year of poor sales?
Imagine further.
If the sales for brand new units drops drastically within the next 3
years, say a 70% drop year-over-year, I'm sure prices will have to be
readjusted dramatically for the survival of all carmakers.
Let's share this message to our friends and see if we can turn things
around.

that the rakyat stopped buying new cars and only buy used cars, they may
react by
1) Ban import of used cars (or must need AP)
2) Make the interest rate very-very high (like 10-15%), and loan period max
5 years.
3) Impose all sorts of taxes and duties on used car sales
4) Ban cars older than 15 years from driven on the road
5) etc.
Only sane and responsible G will react by making new car more
affordable.... unfortunately our current one is not.

the local automotive industry can bloom, but on the other hand, we also
want the masses to use more public transport to minimise traffic
congestion... or maybe they just want us to keep buying cars but keep them
at home for weekend use only, and utilise public transport to goto work?

It gets harder to resist the temptation of buying new n latest car but
somehow I managed to do it. Sometimes even when u have the money to buy
the car, u may not have the time to enjoy yr ride.
Totally in support of going to work by public trabsport or riding bikes
and cars/MPVs/SUVs etc for weekend use only. But to pay monthly
installment of RM1-2k for something which u will use once a week also
doesn't make economic sense. Some more add in bad public transportation
system. We have a loose-loose situation here.
