how to buy used cars when the used car dealers are notorious for the dirty plays? you thought you get a bargain but ended up getting a junk, and spent more times visiting workshops or standing by the roadside waiting for tow truck....

A fren of mine, his father worked in a bank dealing with used car dealers (provide financing to them plus their customers). When i asked him to recommend a good and trusty used car dealer that he knows, he thought for a second and told me, go buy new car......

Not sure if it's fair to generalize and say there are no honest used car dealer. They also cari makan and have family. I and people I know have bought used cars with no problems.

Saying that not all new car dealers are honest. I was promised a rebate when I bought my new kelisa and the P2 dealer buat2 lupa and we had to threaten to see the manager B4 getting what we were promised. Another case a friend paid for a new Naza Kia and when got the car found it was of a lower spec!! And the dealer refused to acknowledge it!

I think there are crooks in every profession and there are also honest ones. Even lawyers have crooks too ...

I agree - but just that in terms of proportion, used car dealers have a higher percentage (much much higher) of crooks among their trade than the others.

My wife (before I married her), my bro and myself had bad experience with used car dealers. We were ignorant then and basically buy a car with all its original good condition parts replaced with recond OEM parts. When you see the car, all swee swee original....when you collect your car, everything else stripped and swapped....

if you know honest and good used car dealers, pls share with me, i may need it soon.

Another option is to buy from frens or family members who wanted to sell for upgrading. At least we know the car history. Besides, may get some discounts too smile_thumbup.gif

After that send the car for overhaul...presto "almost new" car comes out smile_big.gif

if u consider depreciation cost as the real cost in owning a car, then whether a new or used car cost about the same, u may think that a new car depreciate more but if u take into account the cost of prepping up a used car to a 'new car' condition, it cost about the same (not to mention the trouble u hv to go thru), and if u used recond parts to prep up the used car, it will nvr run as good as a brand new car, so what's the point? used car wud be nice to hv if u can really find one wif a genuine low mileage, even then, u still need a car to run around and survey for one and even if it's on low mileage, it's still a used car, hey, even a brand new car manufactured a few years ago hv to take some discount and there must be some reason for that, what's more a low mileage car

by the way, prepping up the car is not just involving engine overhaul but also suspension parts, air cond, tyre, gear box etc. if u are a clean freak, may even wanna change all the seats
