malaysian public...it is obviously that MALAYSIANS own Proton so proton
cannot be allowed to fall regardless of AFTA.....long live proton.
From the Star today:
KHAZANAH Nasional Bhd has bought an 8% stake in Proton Holdings Bhd for
RM387.72mil a source close to the deal said yesterday.
The seller is Japan's biggest trading house Mitsubishi Corp and the deal
was brokered by investment bank CIMB Bhd. “Khazanah had wanted to do this
for a long time but Mitsubishi had wanted a certain price,” the source
said.
The purchase raised Khazanah's stake in Proton to about 43%. The state
investment agency bought 4.3% of Proton from Mitsubishi Motors Corp in
March 2004.
Stock exchange data showed that 43.56 million Proton shares changed hands
minutes before the stock market closed yesterday. The data did not
identify the buyer or seller.
The deal was done at RM8.90 a share, which is a 1.7% premium over
Proton's closing price of RM8.75.
In October 2004, Proton and Europe's largest carmaker Volks-wagen AG
agreed on a partnership deal to assemble the German carmaker's vehicles
in Malaysia.

What's this hanky panky at KLSE! "The data did not identify the buyer or
seller."

Original Post : Khazanah Nasional Bhd has 43%. If we add others like EPF,
PNB, and the
malaysian public...it is obviously that MALAYSIANS own Proton so proton
cannot be allowed to fall regardless of AFTA.....long live proton.

My worst nightmare may bcomes reality!
So we all end up as RELUCTANT shareholders of Potong. We need to buy
Potong cars at all costs, even if it's a junk and look like a kereta-
lembu with Minangkabau roof! (remember LAT's cartoon on potong car)
