Just look at the news - that this proton guy still wants govt protection
for proton as the govt wants to open up the car trade and esp in view of
afta - but come on after 20 yrs of producing cars, do u mean that proton
is still unable to compete and it is exactly this that bec of govt
protection for proton that it cannot compete - even after 20 long years
and this "CEO" still asks for much more time as "fairness n
understanding"? - while the rakyat has been paying so much more for their
cars and even for proton cars too. Cant the govt recognise that bec of
its protection for proton that proton doesnt really need to bother at all
abt competition and laid back in its affairs. Just look at the Quality
issues - so much problems with QC as can be seen in these forums. Even
the damned power windows is still a major problem that this "CEO" never
bother to solve and even the Gen2 has many power window failures. So how
can proton even can be better even with protection when the very basic
tenet of quality control is not even fixed?????

Local carmaker seeks fair auto policy from Govt
PROTON Holdings Bhd is seeking “fairness and understanding'' from the
Government on a new motor vehicle policy to be announced as early as
June, said group chief executive officer Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel Tengku
Ariff.
“What we seek is for the Government to understand that we have just
started running, and that we need time to become the 100-metre world
champion,'' Mahaleel, said in his speech at the launch of a series of
commemorative stamps on Proton's GEN.2 in Putrajaya yesterday.
Proton needs to introduce more new models to help it stem a five-year
drop in market share. Competition from Honda Motor Co, Kia Motors Corp
and other foreign carmakers eroded Proton's market share to 44% in 2004,
from 66% in 1999.
“When we say time, I mean, totally opening up the market, offer different
incentives, which require policy thinking. We seek fairness and
understanding from the Government for this policy,'' Mahaleel said. –

It is the same old stale story from the 1st national car maker.
In short, echoing those recent famous 'words of wisdom' from the great CEO
of Proton, "What can I do???"

Everybody knows that the weak needs to be protected in order to survive.
However, Proton does not understand that such protection does not last
forever, and it also does not understand that the weak should have use the
cover of protection as the opportunity to learn on how to become strong,
and eventually, would not need anymore protection.

Yap, lets not raise the issues of races or religions here.....its a
harmony country, though we all may actually understand the view "behind
the stage".
