Yes Mr Cpyew, the driving satisfaction is most addictive with the Conti
cars so much that l already own 3 Peugeots, same model twice and a new
model currently. The road handling, aaaah, beyonds words...

While its somewaht true that the parts are more expnasive than Oriental,
but that just part,l buy parts only, no money spend on accesories like
stabilizer bars, GT wings, fancy rims, top of the range hi fi etc,so
besides the affordable monthly payment, l just save bit by bit for the
parts in case of needed! And with the avaiability of Kedai Potong and the
support from Club, all this become easier.

All this pengorbanan just come from one reason: Driving Satisfaction!

Please keep the discussion going... Thank you.

Cire: l know a bit about the 2T Saab and l never drive an Audi, heards
that its exciting experience.

The difference can be put down to socio enocomic differences. Motor
vehicles in Europe is no longer a strictly utilitatiran tool, it has
become a fashion accessory, a tool for pleasure (most urban dwelling
European take public transport to commute to work and only drive during
weekends), as a result style, comfort and driver's appeal takes precedant
over durability and reliability. Remember the Pugs and the Mercedes taxis
in KL? They used to be built like tanks and keep going forever. Mercedes
used to overenginneered their cars to the point that their door handle and
locks can sustain the weight of the car itself (I have seen a video demo
where a crane hoisted an E class by its door handle). Such philosophy is
no longer practiced in today's short model cycles and rapidly changing
customer taste. It is no accident the European cars are deemed less
reliable these days by world standard, their cars are designed to be throw
away consumer items. Overengineering and tight quality standard is not
free, it has a cost attached to it, if the Japanese find that the cost
start to outweight the benefit, they will start to take the European route
by putting brand image, style and comfort ahead of durability and
reliability. However we should bear in mind that with advances in
engineering and production technique, the issue of durability and
reliability is relative, we can't compare today's car with yesteryear's
cars in absolute term, it is the shift of priority.

wmsoo,
I have the previlege to have sit in one Saab2T engined car.

Have an experience when the Fiat 850 caught fire in the afternoon sun.
Nobody in the car knows that a small fire have ignited in the rear of the
car (thats where the engine was situated). White smoked emits but thought
it was bcos of engine burning oil..
Luckily some hurried waving by a pedastrian saved us from being roasted..
(mind you, it was a 2 door Fiat)
Well, this scare happened whenever the Saab2T stops. White smoke will
bellow out and sometime over to and into the car...wah..lau....! Only
this time, it was the engine burning 2T oil.
My uncle always refer it as the aeroplane car "fei kei cheh"..as it was
built by Saab aero, with a propellered aeroplane as its logo.
Any Gucci or channel edt cannot fight off the fume smells...I guess
nowadays' 2T bikes smokes as bad as the Saab2T..

i don't think europeon cars are good in realibility and di-value to fast.
My neighbour used to own a peugeot 405. He once told me the car is a real
pain in the a*s. He said the quality of the car drop after a few weeks
owning it. The power mirror failed. The engine been overhauled despite
mileage still under 100k. The electronics failed exp. power window ( like
proton). The paint and rubber sealant colour starts to fade eventhough he
parks under car porch. He also lost half of the value of the car after
selling it 5 years laterShock.

A lot of people who condemn proton save up all their money to buy Jap and
Conti makes...only to find that ANY manufacturer can make lemons. Most of
these people just shut up in the end and suffer in silent misery. Perhaps
to save face on all the hate-mongering they've done.

In reality, they're just sore that they didn't have a choice but to live
with proton's lemons.

All I can say is..."You made your bed. Now lie in it"

For me personally, If you are looking for trouble free motoring, go for
the japs. I just drive my car daily, service it every 10,000 km and that's
it. Nothing breaks down, everything in working order. No worries
whatsoever on long journeys and driving at night. A bit bland tho but I
see car as transportation needs, nothing more.

If you are looking for expression of styles and characters, then perhaps
an Alfa is sexier and better to drive, a pug is much more comfortable and
a Citroen probably handles much better. But these conti probably needs
more TLC than the Japs.

Only from my perpective and experience.

All cars has it`s problems, conti or asian cars. It is, afterall a
mechanical and electrical components. Even if you are not to use it, it
will age like us humans.

If you make a decision using yur brain, you tend to be calculative in
every sense of the word. Purchase price, maintenance, re-sale value and
a matters as such will be yur utmost consideration.

If you make yur decision using yur heart, you will get carried away by
dreams, whims and whole deal of fancies. Does it get yur adrenaline
pumping, look at what sort of speed will you be rocketing home today, the
modds that you are going to throw in for another few hp or perhaps the
safety aspect of it.

Both the decision is not wrong. But both the decision does not makes
much sense to the other chap sitting on the other side of the fence. The
diverse tastebuds in all of us afterall, has actually prevented everyone
of us from driving Ford Model-T.Big Smile

I remember one British guy who told me that the most reliable cars are
Japs and Korean. European cars are crap. He was the RAC mechanic who came
to fix my car. European cars are nice but I won't buy.... I don't mind a
Peugeot 407 as a company car... dun have to pay for depreciation and
repairs.... Big Smile

I know this guy who was driving a 406. I asked how is his car, he said
very good.... few weeks later he had to take leave to repair his car....
next month, he changed to Civic already!

As much as I like the style... you need lots of cash to maintain conti...
