Malaysian car prices are inflated because protection for the national car
makers. So, if we want to have these car prices lowered so that we can
afford them more easily, the protection for national car makers would have
to be reduced to 'nothing'. But the govt does not want to lose 'revenue'
from taxes & duties imposed on cars and so car prices remain artificially
high. To make it 'easier' for average people to afford such artificially
high prices, 9 year car hire purchase schemes come into existence. But who
wants to still be paying monthly instalments for the new price when the
car had depreciated so much during the 9 year period? The way we spend our
money on cars nowadays seems ridiculous.
