Hi,

I just noticed today that old postings are not there anymore. So once
they're purged, they're gone for good? :(

Dear Esky,

Due to limited space in the server, we do purging/cleanups.

this is unfortunately. i dunno how many times the members here have asked
for some form of archiving of important information posted in the forums.
instead, this purging causes the old members to get fed up posting the
same answers to the same old questions being posted by newbies as well as
an unnecessary wastage of space. this coupled with inane and stupid
postings that are incomprehensible (from people like HMShebuy) does not
reflect well on the efficiency with which this forum is run.

I would recommend a notice be posted in all forums (or just in Latest
News forum) to give a couple of days' notice for members to 'bump up'
useful informative threads.

Dear members,

That's a good suggestion with regards to posting of notice prior to
purging of certain threads. On this basis, we will probably give 5 - 7
days notice in all forum threads when we proceed with the purging of
threads.

I would recommend some sort of ranking system where members could rank
posts or threads which have high information or content value to keep them
alive while unneccessary posts can be deleted.

Not a good idea. Might be biased. Then all hamsap thread get high ranking.

Unless the admin filter it out.
