Chips,
I apologise for putting up this post here as I am unable to do it in
NMT. Perhaps you would transfer this one to NMT once its available.
My dear chtan,
I read with interest of your input of scriptures from the bible and I am
impressed that you are able to relate the contradictions. I`m new to
Christianity and I`m still studying the book as you so called. I can`t
help feeling that I get the impression that you do not know the "book"
eventhough you tried to show yourselves that you do. Either you have
copied the verses from somewhere and you believe them blindly or
you do not know the book at all.
As I have mentioned earlier being a new one, I`m always looking for
answers to many questions and also have doubts like you. As I`m
still
learning to understand the "book", allow me to answer some of the
scriptures that you have put. Unfortunately, I am unable at this time
answer to all your scriptures posted as I need to do some research
and not ctrl c from somewhere and then ctrl v to this posting . But I
will like to answer them as much as I can and in time. Would be a
very good exercise for me answering those contradictions that you
have.
Here goes
Should we kill?
Exodus 20:13 "Thou shalt not kill."
Leviticus 24:17 "And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to
death."
vs.
Exodus 32:27 "Thus sayeth the Lord God of Israel, Put every man his
sword by his side, . . . and slay every man his brother, . . . companion,
. . . neighbor."
MY THOUGHTS
Why ? If you have read the Bible, you will know that the people have
sinned greatly.. adultery, idol worshipping, cheating, etc . Exodus
32:7-8 “And the Lord said to Moses.” Go, get down ! For your people
whom you brought out of the land of Eqypt have corrupted
themselves. They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I
commanded them.” As also in Noah and the flood and the
destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah which you should know of the
events that took place.
I Samuel 6:19 " . . . and the people lamented because the Lord had
smitten many of the people with a great slaughter."
I Samuel 15:2,3,7,8 "Thus saith the Lord . . . Now go and smite
Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but
slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel
and ass. . . . And Saul smote the Amalekites . . . and utterly destroyed
all the people with the edge of the sword."
MY THOUGHTS
The nation of Amalek stood under God’s judgement for its
unprovoked attack on the Israelites at Rephidim during the Exodus
journey to the Promised Land ( 1 sam 15:2-3)
Numbers 15:36 "And all the congregation brought him without the
camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the Lord
commanded Moses."
Hosea 13:16 "they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be
dashed in pieces, and their women with children shall be ripped up."
MY THOUGHTS
Consider this. Some passages are difficult, not because they are
hard to understand but because they are hard to accept. The
condemnation and execution of a man for picking up sticks on
Sabbath (Num 15:32-36) for e.g. Yet it’s important to put this incident
in perspective. God decided to make an example of this individual. In
a sense, God had to act decisively and firmly at some point.
Otherwise, the people might as well have concluded that God’s law
were of little consequence, and they could do as they pleased.
Exodus 34:7 –“I keep my promises to my people forever, but I also
punish anyone who sins. When people sin, I punish them and their
children, and also their grandchildren and great-great grandchildren”.
Consider also, that He too had sacrificed His Son Jesus Christ for all
our sins. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave His only
Son, that whoever so believes in Him shall not perish but have
everlasting life.
Should we steal?
Exodus 20:15 "Thou shalt not steal."
Leviticus 19:13 "Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbor, neither rob him."
vs.
Exodus 3:22 "An mall c‰> Chips,

"You can have a view. But don`t just accept blindly what you
see and pass on the messages that you may not understand."

Yeah, its a good exercise for me anyway. Did not know that there are
contradictions
as chtan put it but it`ll be worth my time to satisfy myself like I did. If I
can`t answer
any of them perhaps I`ll get help from my Pastor. At least if anyone
were to pose me
these questions again, I will be better equip to answer them.
I read "Case for Christ" by Lee Stromberg and I will recommend
those in doubt this
book of evidence that Christ exist. A skeptical journalist who
researched for 3 years
and finally accepted the Lord after gone thru his research and best of
all was his
daughters question " Who is daddy`s God ? I want to know him too".
(after she sees
the change in her father)
Just found a site that talks about contradictions and answers for
those interested.
