well, just because you dont have that much cash to dump on a small car
doesnt make everyone who bought it dumb. chances are they all have much
bigger cars as their main car/cars. the only thing that makes it crap
here is the price, and guess who caused that? but heck, if you have that
much cash to spare on something for short hops, why not? it's definitely
smarter than gen2!

Thrawn,

I'll actually buy the Gen2 rather than the SMART at that price, and spend
20k or so fixing the Gen2 upon delivery. Unless I already have a Gen2
that is.

Scream, trust me if you have extra dough to splash on the smartie you
wont consider the gen2. unless you wanna buy 2 gen2s in case one breaks
down after a week. get the same colour so that people wont notice that
you buy 2 gen2s and start calling you names.

Thrawn, funny you asked me to trust you on what I, as the master of my
own actions and mind, will do with my hypothetical money :)

Anyhow, the Gen2 was just an example. There are a lot of choices out
there at this price range. But I really wouldn't get the SMART even if I
had the money. I'd go for something else.

I had the opportunity (pleasure?) of driving a black SMART (Pulse i
think) for a weekend in London and really, I don't see the point of
owning one at all. Not as a run about, not as a fashion statement. Not as
anything really. The ride is speed boat like. Gear changes not smooth.
Steering is bloody heavy at low speeds. So there you go.

Most Smarts in London are owned by companies, with adverts on the
interchangeable panels. Many are usually nannies, or personal fitness
instructors. The Smarts are cheap there and it attracts attention. Thus
it is suitable for that purpose. But as a personal mode of transport,
urrr. Not quite the best you can get with your money.

As a 10th car maybe, when I'm only left with Saga robot and kancil as
options.

Better to compare between Kancil and Smart. Which is better? Well, you buy
yours I buy mine, who cares?

I dun care whether it is SMART or haute couture
even that car is the same price as Gen.2 (despite the many horror stories
I have heard) and despite whatever high safety features the SMART has

I just feel that one hard whack from the rear... that car may end up on
top of a tree...

...true, which is why i'm a bloody volvo driver. but my point is if you
have cash to spare and buy SMART, would you really care about someone
else's comments on the car? and this guy is driving a gentu?? pls la,
tell me you'd rather buy a mini then i'd understand. go to the gentu
forum and what do you see? problems, problems. SMART is meant to be of a
smaller category car (read: budget) compared to the gentu but sadly it is
only true in certain countries, not msia apparently.

thrawn,

i dun drive a gentu... nor do i intend to buy one... but physically i
think i feel safer in a gentu than in a SMART

SMART wld be a good choice if i live in a place whereby people do not
floor the accelerator when the traffic lights turn amber... or you live in
a golf resort...

i seriously think the chances of getting banged hard from the rear or
side in KL is high

i dun wish to end up on a tree

when you have serious cash to spare... you will not buy this car to drive
to work...probably you buy it just to drive on the lawn of your house for
recreational purposes Big Smile

I think it depends on the perception. As for me, I don't feel safe
driving a SMART psychologically. Just imagine what will happen if there's
a collision between a SMART and a WAJA. The consequence for SMART is
rather obvious. Let's not talk about the engine performance, exterior
outlook, etc. I'm just giving my point in terms of SAFETY.

That's why I'm currently driving a BMW318i now. Safety. And style.
