I seldom ride my cub-chai. Bought it for >3 years already. Mileage 5500km
only. Today I notice that when I switch on the ignition, the Neutral (N)
light didn't light up. Meaning battery die-lah, since the last time I
rode it was 1-2 months ago.
But after a few kickstart, the engine manage to start. Rode it for 1 hour
to create some traffic jam in KL. Notice that the "N" light is on now,
but a bit dimmed.
Question: Will it harm the bike if I keep riding it without changing the
battery? Since I think the cub-chai has an alternator also. Mine is EX5
Class 1, kick-start model. No electronic starter.

Considering your EX5 does not have any fuel injection, ABS or any
whatsoever electronic engine management,it should be OK, although not
advisable. You might one day caught off guard without any light while
riding, engine died or worse can't start it the time you really need to use
the bike. That time the battery is really2 kong already, total scrap.
Change while you still can dude. It cost does not justify the TROUBLES
you'll be facing later.

I faced the same problem before. One quick solution is to top up the water
level of the battery. Otherwise, replace it. The problems you may face
include burnt bulbs and dimmer headlights.
Cheers.

I rarely ride it at night, mostly in the morning or afternoon. I think I
notice the headlight a bit dimmed yesterday.
nazirmz,
Yeah, that's what I thought initially. There's not much electronics stuff
except the headlight/lights and the meter. I did thought about the bike
engine die while I'm riding/cruising, and I'll be thrown off the bike [xx
(] or maybe halfway somewhere, I've to push it for don't know how far.
So, my final solution is to change the battery. Any recommendation on any
good brands? How much will it cost?

The engine won't die from a dead battery lar. The darn battery is being
charged when the engine is running. So no worries about that.

on cupchai,no batt doesn't do your any harm except that you will get burnt
bulbs when you rev. When you rev, the 'dynamo'(don know the correct term)
will produce high ampere and volt to charge your batt but since batt is
konked, the extra ampere and volt will go to your bulb and poof, there goes
your bulb. on other things,it is no biggie, engine will not die or
something. hehe, one funny thing when no batt, press the horn and thne
rev,you can hear funny honks while your rpm goes up.

I did try the lights/signal/brake, everything still working. I'm not a
racer, just ride in a normal rev and speed.
While engine idling, I try the horn. Sounds the same as usual. No funny
honks. Maybe I need to try to rev little bit
So, how much does a new battery cost? Brand? I need to know, so that
my "neck" will still be intact when I report here later.

This is what happen to my Kriss2. My batt. is weak and water level is low.
While riding, the engine just die and cant start. So need to push to the
nearst shop and only discover the water level is low and to make matter
worst, the whole CDI unit burnt.
The replacement is costly.
Dynamo OEM : RM35
CDI : RM380
W/ship:RM20
Lesson learn here and will not repeat again and will definetly check batt.

Wow... that the worst case scenario of what can happen if you don't
maintain ur battery.Sorry to hear that satria00. Hmm.. I think what cute
boboi can do is that go to m/cycle w/shop and ask for 'normal' battery.
Not something too cheap or too expensive. After all, it's only EX5 what.
One question... does kapcai have rectifier or not to charge the batt? Or
the alternator is already giving DC output?
