bulldog,
usually those so called "exhaust specialist" will charge u no less than 200 bucks for the extractor alone..,alwiz claiming that theirs is better...and so on..

but bout the mid-bullet thing...if ur car is equipped with the cat-converter than u should change to mid bullet or else...like mine..dont have to touch it..

the sports air-filter is another much talked about thing...hope no one in this 1.6 forum go change `em coz...itz proven that it doesnt provide additional power although their website and some "ah Beng" sayz more power....try do pick up with your friend who`s changed the sports filter and see the difference....

4-2-1 ....moderate ones will do..
the most important for our type of cars, change to 4-2-1 and also the rear muffler to S-Flow.....best option, minimal cost...plug cables and sports filter ..u couldnt really feel the difference..

Is there any dis-advantage of changing the extractor?Heard that it will cause our car more heat..cause the extractor is more thin than original one.Another one will consume more oil than usual.Emmmm what do u guys think??

haha got gathering ? where ? when ?
change extractor got more pickup meh ?
i don`t think so. Most of you say can feel right ? well, it`s only felt and not really proven to increase the pick-up at all. Most specialist (i mean the real specialist) says that the standard extractor is more than good enough for our 1.6 (manual or auto). Changing your extractor might actually disrupt the pulse coming out of your exhaust pipe thus causing a drop in hp & increament in fuel consumption. Want more power just tuka the piping 2` from after the extractor till belakang.
One more thing, does the K&N filter really save fuel ? cos i just installed one last week and my petrol consumption this weel has gone up by a hefty RM10. please comment Smile

I have changed my extractor for acceleration. However, it depends on who installs/reccomends/designs them for you. Plonking in a Hot Bits and hope to make a difference is a wrong thing. Sure, the sound changes but performance?

A 2" piping is meant for cars such as the GTi but for those lesser engine capacity, it will mean smaller diameter (Unless you have a Turbo) Too big and your car will lose power. Too small, your car will choke.

Yes, your petrol consumption will be affected (depending on the mod) when you change these things:

1) Exhaust
2) Rim and tyres
3) Filter
4) Spark Plug

Driving a TC Edition which is about 17months and now clocking around 75000km.

I donno about changing to a better performance extractor but the OEM extractor come with the 4-2-1 spec, maybe without chroming and thermo wrap. Mr. E, since u hv changed ur extractor, do u feel any drastic change? I might try it someday though but not now coz still gathering information. But FYI, some kaki lumba at BT3 hv their stock extractor inside their bonnet.

About air filter, I m using K&N drop in type and I guess the performance did increased but remember to bring ur car for tuning after u put it in. I felt dissapointed soon after I put it in coz the car feels lembab during accelaration but after some tuning, it feels great. Maybe the fuel consumption will slightly increased if the filter is dirty which is what happening to me now...too lazy to wash Big Smile.

After done some mod on the exhaust system, it perform much better compare to last time. Went to Genting few days ago and it took me about 23 minutes to reach Genting from the toll. I think quite okay for a Automatic car.

stevecwl,
About the extractors, go and find a Putra 1.8 extractor and change to it. It will make the car much smoother. Don`t worry .. the Putra 1.8 extractor fits exactly on your 4G92P. Also, since you have changed your rear muffler, you might consider changing your mid-section piping.

But then again, all this modifications to your exhaust doesn`t really makes a different or increases the performance. It makes the car breathe much smoother only.

When you get the extractor and while the mechanic is changing it, you can see the difference between both extractor.
