Based on what I have seen, the performance of the GTis (or 4G93, or all
cars for that matter) tends to vary. Due to manufacturing tolerances being
wide.

I know of someone whose' GTi (year 2002) that maxes out at 160km/h. No
carpet blockage, no throttle cable problem. Everything appears fine. It
just cannot go past 160kmh... losing out its puff early.

Mine, year 2002, when stock, could easily pull to 205+km/h (did not try
max at that time as not used to those speeds). 200km/h was easy.

Now, its hitting 215km/h easily and it still wants to go faster but I dont
dare as I'm still not used to those speeds.

I guess its your luck on how the car is assembled (and the car's ECU
settings) that gives it its max speed and pickup.

Anyway, no point going that fast since we dont really have the roads for
that.

The settings on the Siemens has been the main issue of most people I have
met. The settings robs the car of most of its power.

I believe GTI can do at least 200kmh cause my puny 1.5l wira can tail a
Skyline GTR at 180kmh on the road heading to KLIA (donno how many saman I
got though!) cause the GTR got speed limit 180kmh if sure cannot see his
backside lor!

but hell at 180kmh you reach from one end to another like warp speed
suddenly aiks miss turning!

Wanted to take photo but dowan to crash at 180kmh lor!

Siemens is not the problem. R3 has managed to tune up Satria R3's to
produce 170+hp at the crank.

prozac51,

You have missed my point. I'm referring to standard run-of-the-mill
production cars, not custom built ones.

R3s are different. They have been setup for race performance prior to
production (its a limited run). Proton sets up the ECU (with loads of
trial/testing on the 4G93P block to get the best out of it) and then gets
Siemens to put them into the R3 units. Since I dont drive an R3 I dont know
if the ECUs are any different.

And the 170+hp on the crank is not mainly due to ECU tuning but certainly
to include exhaust tweaking, massive cams, and a whole load of other
internal tweaks. No way 170+hp can be gained just with tweaking the ECU
without any internal work.

Back to the point, we are talking about regular production run cars (the
Wiras, GTIs, Gen2s). On standard Siemens cars, they do not use race
settings, hence the poor perofrmance. That is why most people have problems
with the Siemens. If you drive a Siemens GTi and a regular one you will
know the differece. I've driven both and know that there is a noticeable
difference.

Once you have the settings (and you find it crappy) you wont be able to do
much.

I've had this issue (and a few people I know as well) for a very long time
and there was no way out with Siemens (unless, recently, Siemens have
changed their ECU design and given a Proton more flexibility to program it
on-the-fly).

I went all over the place (Proton) to get the Siemens tuned and there was
no way it can be done. They told me themselves. Only thing that was
adjustable was RPM idling (up to only 1K RPM). Not sure if they have
changed this now.

As far as I recall, its something to do with the fact that Proton/Siemens
is looking at the ECU controlling more than just the engine, including
(possibly) alarm systems and such (hence, the need for high level security
in their ECU units). However, I'm not sure if this plan has been scrapped.

Yo airfilter,

Yup, long time no "see". I've been reeeaaaal busy lately. Going mad with
the massive amount of work.

Last time I dragged with him was when he had the close-gear-ratio gearbox.

That was actually very quick.

But during the drag, I had to lift off the gas pedal otherwise I would have
ended up in his bumper. But that was a real "rush" that time......

How's your car? Hope everything's fine. I will likely be doing a roughly
1-hour dyno tuning (after the holidays) to fully optimise the car. Maybe
you might want to lepak with us? Check with maddie. We will be fixing a
date/time.

Enjoy your holidays man....
