Hi, would like to share my experience with you all regrading my current
ride neo and gen.2. I'm no auto journo but i try to relate my experience
with both cars
Proton Gen.2 1.6 (a) 2004 metropolitan grey, second batch
Proton Satria Neo 1.6 (a) m-line 2006 brilliant red, first batch
How do i get the car?
With the gen.2 the process is smooth, the SA is helpful but lacking any
knowledge about the car, when pressed about airbags and abs, she say it was
not important(!) but i proceed nevertheless coz really smitten with that
car. Got the car in 2 weeks
Neo, otherwise, quite a hassle, at my nearby PE dealer at S.alam, the neo
is hot in demand, and the usual promise of one month is stretch to 2
months, the SA very articulate and profesional in assisting my purchase,
quite good and plus even share some insight of Proton Edar (good and bad).
Got the car in 2 months
First drive
I admit i being fooled into the sleek design of both cars, i'm no auto dud
but sometimes you tend to do an 'alfa romeo' rather than 'Volvo' ..i bought
both cars without test driving it and altough with neo i pretty know what
in stores with my experience with gen.2
Gen.2 first month
the very first day i collect my car, the seat was drenched with water! the
pillar inside the driver side is so beyond recognition with the water
seeping through the pillars fabric.The SA say they forgot to close the
window and rain drenched it but the guard manning the PE centre told me it
happen when they washed the car!! The remote is utterly useless unless you
press it hard, and the door is quite a hassle to open, the back light bulb
burned in two weeks
Neo first month...
Surprisingly, the Neo is quite problem free, because my experience with
gen.2, i checked it quite strictly and even follow the SA washed the car!
to check for any leeks. No problems detected, the car is quite exceed my
expectation really. I even try the alarm zillion times. Any issues i relate
next.
Design....
Altough the neo is a stunner itself, but it lacks the wow factor of gen.2
when it first launched, maybe the base styling is quite dated with many
gen.2 on the road. I love the rear hatch of gen.2 but more in love neo
front design if you look closely the gap between the openings is more
consistent in Neo. My gen.2 front bonnet had a small gap between the
radiator. None on neo
Ride and Handling..
I'm not sure on this but in early stages i prefer my gen.2's , but maybe i
hoped to much in Satria-based model that i raise the standard bar quite
high. The Gen.2 is more 'rough' and you can feel the tyres and road more
while the neo sometimes feels muted with less feedback. Personal preference
i think so. But drive the neo more and you will find you are more likely to
appreciate its more refined drives than the gen.2..its feel more
continental-like with good dampening..impressive
The sound insulation properties in neo is better.. sometimes you will not
noticed that the engine is turned on (really unlike the gen.2. famous
'battle cry'. With campro already famous with its loud roar in high RPM,
the neo feels more muted, better than the Gen.2 and my friend's Waja
Campro. The car goes over the bump with a soft 'thud' noise and feels
better wise than gen.2 altough gen.2 is good but neo edged it. Thump the
meter to 120km/h then it really show the wind noise which the neo, edged again.
The auntomatic gear shift....
The Gen.2 shifted like a toy, mark my word, you even can hear the
transmission mechanical clanking between the sound of metal and plastic
grinding while changing.... and really not helping with its cheap hollow
plastic gear stick. The neo shifted smoothly between the P and D, with the
gear stick feel more solid and comfortable. But the neo gear label is made
of shock-horror clear plastic that you find to bind your documents at the
stationery shop!!
Braking..
My first year i had to change my gen.2 brake pad twice while on neo i
cannot comment until further drives. But on comparing my first month on
bot 1
