Front wheel LSD in FF car.
Some thoughts:
LSD provides a torque transfer to the other wheel that is not spinning
that fast. Thus when connering , the outer wheel which is more weighted
since the body roll and has more traction , on the other hand the inner
wheel spins faster due to less weight , so with a LSD the outer wheel will
run fast with the torque transfer and thus provide better connering ,
minimizing understeer.
Contradicting thoughts:
LSD performs marvellous in low speed condition , however in high speed
condition , the potential to have both wheels spin will be greater with
LSD transmission as opposed to open differential. Thus ,during high speed
conering , once the inner wheel spins , extra torque will be transfer to
the outer wheel and given certain conditions the outer wheel with the
extra torque giving might start to spin which results in the car being out
of control which is far more dangerous than having an open differential.
Some say the given condition would be wet roads , sandy road ...
Condition might be different for LSD in 4WD and RWD car , more interested
in FWD since not many cars with 4WD and also RWD except "$$$" racing cars.
Care to share some opinion , also feel free to correct anything that I
have mistaken said. Thanks.
