If it for me to decide i would go for 1.8 twin cam coz to maintain it ie:
fuel+any repairing+part availability so far should not be a problem
beside the power you get from this powerplan engine.If you want to extend
upgrade it would be a good base & the bottom line jpj can approve it
without any problem.

^^ i rather save the money and aim a better car with potential for mod,
or, i use the money for fuel, tyres for improving own driving skill ^^( i mean more advance)
or, get yourself a better suspension upgrade because straight fast is not winner but corner fast is the bravo guy ^^

just my opinion, i use to own 4g1x series engine, plan to mod but when study in automotive school, found out that engine potential is limited so i stop, now using 4g9x, quite satisfied and spend a lot $$ too..but no regret compare to spend on 4g1x...^^
