2004 [New] Proton Putra

I went to Selayang yesterday to check out the local PE sales outlet
there. They are selling 2 very nice cars, Putra 1.8 (M) and Waja 1.8X
(A), no longer sold by most/all PE outlets in M'sia. I'm tempted by the
selling price of these 2 cars, RM 63k and RM 70k for the Putra and Waja
respectively.
For those of you who have owned a Putra and have friends who own one, can
you please comment on it? The car's sold with the old Proton emblem at
the front of the car. The steering wheel's a normal leather wrapped one,
not the Momo i was expecting. I was told the Putra came equipped with
Momo steering wheels and gearknobs when it was for sale back in 1997?
The front seats are black bucket Recaro N'Joys while the back seats are
also Recaro's with the same trim. Dashboard has carbon fibre like
finishing and the meter panel is orange in colour. It's also sold with
14" wheels with i-don't-know-what-type-of-rims. Spare tyre does not come
with alloy rim. Oh and the audio system offered is only a Clarion
cassette player.
What do you fellas think? I appreciate all feedback.

the new putra does not have the punch of the pre 00 putras. Its no longer
an item to be proud of, due to the change of the ECU and absence of
various accesories (IINM, no abs or airbags).

the Siemens MAP system. Performance should be ok.
But it's really old stock. For a car that's been out of production for
many years, warranty claims might be an issue. What we can't come to terms
with is the removal of the MOMO and ABS. Doesn't feel like a real Putra
anymore. I did go there and consider buying it. It's a nice car. But after
thinking 2-3 times, decided against it.
The Waja 1.8X is also a dubious buy. Renault engine. Where to find parts?
Not any "Bengkel Bawah Pokok" can work on it. There's a reason why this
model was shelved as quickly as it was introduced.
That Selayang outlet has been a dumping ground for many defunct Proton
models. Just look at the number of Juaras in its backyard. If you're after
classic and rare Protons which are still new, that's the place to go.

warranty. They shouldn't have removed the ABS and Momo bits. I would
have bought a Putra from them if they still retained the ABS and Momo
bits.
Thanks for your thoughts anyway.

and Putra all the way been using mitsu ecu, unlike gti which changed to
siemens. the seats still recaro, but different design and color. the momo
stuffs has been removed, likewise the 2000 batch but somehow i got hold
of the stock putra momo steering for rm350, brand new (ada lubang).
for that amt of money of course u can get a new car with new technology
such as spectra wif airbags, full leather seat, sports body kit, cd
changer. it depends on wat u want. if u wan a nice comfortable family
sedan, then u go for it la. if u wan a sporty, lonely driver performance
car then go for putra la. where to find a 1.8 4g93 DOHC at this price? u
can go for a 2nd car but do u want that hassle? moreover civic here is
SOHC, not DOHC, except for i-vtec.

with abs, airbag and 4 yrs warranty. They are out of production so they are
