Most performance Proton drivers (especially the pre-Waja drivers), have a
strong sentimental and spiritual connection with Mitsubishi. Not due in
the least to the fact that pre-Waja Protons were re-badged Mitsus (except
for the Tiara). And the connection is especially deep because it was
sparked by the glorious age of engine conversions and turbo/mivec
Protons. But that age is lost forever. Now is the age of... sigh... local
R&D.
But no fear, the good old days might be back again. The new 2008
Mitsubishi Lancer and Lancer Evolution Prototype X was launched at the
Detroit Motorshow on 8 January 2007.
The link's got some videos of the launch, the official promo video and a
walkabout tour of both cars by Mitsu`s North American GM.
But first, I`ve got my hands on the detailed specs list of the North
American 2008 Lancer. And since it is a global platform, it should be
virtually identical to the next generation Lancer worldwide. So here`s my
specifications only review ie. engine, gearbox, chassis and brakes. I
also included a quick and dirty estimate of the new Lancer's top speed
and century sprint time - based on its specs and an assumed drag
coefficient, input into a dyno program.
