I've bought a second hand 2002 renault scenic 1.6a with just 45k km
mileage. I've got the service records, and they show that there's NEVER
been any balancing/alignment done before (no need???) and no new tyres..
that's why tires very botak now.

THe steering wheel shudders Violently when i increase speed, and the
balancing and alignment is totally out. I want to buy new tyres and also do
the balancing & alignment. thought i want to rotate the tyres, just buy 2
new ones, but the owner's manual just said "the practice of rotating tyres
is not recommended". No reason given. I thought it should be good, to
balance out the wear? Can someone advice? i'm thinking of getting korean
tyres.. any comments? plan to go to a normal mechanic rather than tan
chong.. dangerous or not my plan?? How much should i inflate my tyres?

THe owner's manual said that the tyres comes with a PAX system - with a
puncture, one can still drive 200km at 80km/h, and aerosols not recommended
because of this. Aerosols, what are they? something likethe nitrogen gas
for the tyres? perhaps this PAX thing is the reason we shouldnt' rotate our
tyres?

I think the manual may not be for the malaysian market.. they mentioned
something about front light wipers.. mana ada front light wipers for our
scenic?? so, not sure how many things on the manual can be used. also
mentioned an onboard computer that tells you all sorts of things.. but no
guideline on how to activate/use the computer/display. Is there a way i can
find out what's our normal specs, and the common problems, and the
maintenance schedule for the scenic?

THe service records also showed very scary & expensive things done to the
car.. like, the car wouldn't start, so the owner change the ignition
something, then another thing..got to check and type out the list here.. it
reads like a nightmare.. any scenic owners have lots of problems with the car?

Just bumped into this thread after long absence. Maybe our friend here
has already got around the problems.

Anyway, it’s kinda unusual people buy this type of car without doing some
kind of research. There are few mentions regarding this model in this
forum sometimes ago. Like was said, it’s a lovely car but has also got a
fair share of problems. Which is applicable also for other models and
makes but somehow people see more on negative things . But tell me which
conti didn’t suffer this biased perception by most if not everybody.

Example given such as ignition coils damage can happen to any car if
come to contact with water. In case of scenic, it’s the water from
windshield can drip into the engine right on top of ignition coils. Can
only happen if black plastic cover/collector (between engine hood and
windshield) damaged or ruptured. It’s a known problem and TC has
intoduced a metal support to streghten it.

But most problems are caused by the owner or previous owner themselves.
They lanyak the car blindly and blamed it when the problem came. These
contis are different from the japs . Most conti owners will agree with me
on this. You need to know the car. Need different mindset. If this is too
difficult for you to handle then I must say you made a wrong choice.

I once asked TC about tyre replacement in penang. They told that they will
send to other workshop for tyre replacement. Just make sure they have the
tools for alignment.
