not sure about 146 but the 156 rack is about RM3k new and RM1+k
recond/used.

ePER lists the 146 1.8TS rack at UK500 pounds. abt the same as 156 la.

I just had mine done at Alfatech last week. It was reconditioned new
parts and total cost was RM1,750 including labour. However, after I have
driven it for a couple of days, the part was found to be faulty and
Alfatech replaced it totally again yesterday. Mine is a 146 boxer.

a worn steering rack will give a cracking sound when turning the wheel
left or right? yes?

i also have to change mine. giving some sound only when turning full
circle (especially making u-turn) left/right.

wonder how much it cost for brand new for Ti.

thank u guys...anyway i will settle temperature problem first by
installing twin fan first since lately my temperature start increasing
mightbe due to hot weather or the fan too old(just replace year ago).
Anybody got methods to solve temperature problem? since it's become common
to alfa cars.

stop spreading silly rumours. if ur car never used to overheat and then
suddenly it does, something has broken. check ur radiator. if its 5-6 yrs
old there are prolly collaped fins. it doesnt need to leak before its
replaced.

also check ur thermostat. again if its 5-6 yrs old its due for
replacement.

i repeat again, healthy alfas do NOT have overheating problems.

yeah...check the water pump, also check fan speed if its turning fast enug;
changing new radiator will definetely see temp drop btw 5-10 deg if its
alredi old.....adding another fan is not the 'proper' way to solve the
problem, u r just masking the problem...

ah yes the waterpump. almost forgot that one.

overheating at low rpm/speeds - radiator
overheating at high rpm/speeds - waterpump

good luck.

If you are getting cracking sound when are you turning hard.
It is most likely due to worn drive shalf. There are two for front wheel
drive. You must change after 3-4 years.

Failed steering rack usually leaks. No so responsive when turning.

Redd, you are absolutely right! Old and worn parts just needing to be
replaced that's all and this applies to every make, not only Alfas, so
please people out there, stop whinging about Alfa's quality.
Other than my steering rack replacement recently (check for oil leakage
cos if yours is low on oil, it will give a cracking/grinding sound when
you are turning the wheel. And usually the leakage might be in the rack
joint, where the bush is), I also had my water pump and fan replaced, as
the temperature was rising quite alarmingly even during normal road
condition with the usual stops for lights, etc. but no jam. Worse when
the A/C was on. Alfatech checked it and found the pump and fan faulty.
All. it cost me a bomb but that's what you would expect to pay when you
are driving one of these beauties. Mercs and Beems would definitely cost
more for the same problems.
