I'm still deciding....whether to get rid of my Putra and get a Citroen.

Also, whether to get a ZX or Xantia. I would choose Xantia for its space
and ride comfort. but then, as usual, not confident with its hydralic
suspension system, afraid that repairs and maintenance might not be cheap.

i believe the price is a little high for a 96 Volcane 8v.

if 13K is your budget, then you got plenty of ZX & Xantias to choose
from.

99-00 Xantia Petrol are going for RM15-RM18K - that was last month, now i
am not sure.

99 - 00 ZX 8v prices are slightly lower than Xantias.

hydraulics for xantias are not the issue. main prob for the car of this
age is the automatic gearbox.

if you are that unlucky to have a car with super hydraulic problems,
repairs will cost you a bit, but once sorted they will not disturb you at
all.

mail me if you need more detailed info. i will try my best to explain.

main issue when getting a used car is a sound chasis, if possible even
the undercarriage as well. most Xantias & ZXes have damaged longerons -
the jacking point.

nuggyn,

problem with 2nd dealers is that, you wont be able to see the service
records. try to get direct from the owner.

Wallace,

actually my budget (if possible) will be nothing more than RM10K. So that
i could pay the car in cash and do not have to get any loans. My main
objective for changing car is to stop paying car loans since by end of
this year, i will be paying my house loan full.

Sure, i'll contact you if i wanna get help from you. In fact, now i'm
looking at one Xantia in a secondhand dealer in Setapak. but have yet to
check it out....maybe will check it out this weekend.

Like citroeneer said, one problem when buying from dealers is i will not
be able to get the service records.

actually i was looking at this ZX, but the owner had already sold it...

if that is the case, you will find a lot for sale at that price, but do
be patient, be very choosy as this car is a buyer's market.

i will keep a look out for you.

u looking for manual or automatic? i am assuming it is petrol.

the link to the zx u posted looked good, but too bad it has been sold.

hi wallace,

yeah, please do keep a look out for me....preferably manual for its lower
maintenance.

like i said, for spaciousness, i would prefer a Xantia....and i'm planning
for the next couple of years since I will be getting married and will be
having kids in 2 or 3 years time. That's why i am afraid that ZX wouldn't
be suitable for a family car.

anyway, you mentioned that you are staying in my area...near U.K. right?
would like to meet up with you one day. can i have your contact? email
it to nuggyn@yahoo.com

thanks.

wahhh nugget... family planning complete already ah? Good lar... finally
settle down...

wallace stays very very very near my old place. top of the hill apartment.

With a budget of 10k, your choice is still very wide... don't hurry about
it. If you need help to view a car... esp a ZX... gimme a call... i'd be
willing to help out... in terms of Xantia, wallace, john, citronking
would be able to better help out. That's currently wayyyyyy outta my
league.

hi vonnig,

actually if possible, i would like to keep my putra...love this car.

however, due to commitments (financial), i am thinking of changing to a
cheaper car so that i do not need to pay carloan anymore. I still have
about 2 years of carloan to go.

no probs. leewallace@hotmail.com

2 years not much really but i do understand the financial part. been
through it and still going through it. i am also in a dilemma of whether
or not to get a hobby car for myself. buying is easy, but knowing myself,
i am the type who are more than willing to spend all the money just to
fix it up well even if i have to starve. so really have to think
carefully.

do calculate more thoroughly, since you already got the Putra with 2 more
years, it may end up cheaper than getting another Citroen UNLESS you can
get a really good price for it.

when u get a used Citroen or any used car for that matter, i am sure you
will be spending quite a bit just on the wear and tear unless you get a
really good deal.

say you still have 20K to go for 2 years, and you sell your Putra for
30K, mens you only have 10K in hand and i doubt that is only ngam ngam to
buy and some repairs.

yeah... really understand the dilemma you're going through nugget... but
does your budget of 10K include the general servicing and parts renewal
of the Citroen you're getting or have you budgetted additional couple of
thousand for renewal and usage of original parts for the car? That is
very important. If your 10K is only for the car then you'll end up
spending an additional 1-2k to ensure a lovely worry free drive for at
least another year or two. But if 10k is all that you're willing to have
then you'll have to look for something around 5-8k. Actually, most ZXes
are still in that bracket. '93-96 units can be had for that price.
