halloo..
has anyone heard about "Surbo" or "suction turbo".. i heard it can
increase the car power & also decrease in fuel consumption.. since i'm
driving ZX 2.0, power is not my concern, but fuel consumption, that's the
interesting part..Does anyone tried it before?.. does it really work?..

a friend of mine install one on his Satria last year. I'll try my best to
recall & explain how it works.

well, it is basically a suction extension that you connect to your air
intake. It looks like a normal suction pipe with the exception that it end
are pointy like a huge saw points and arrange/bend it such a manner that
it promotes a swirling intake of air. (much like the turbo-tip for your
exhaust).

Well theoretically this will promotes much more air to the
engine/combustion chamber thus promotes better/efficient burn via the
mixture of petrol and highly (though the word 'higher than normal'
explains it better) air pressure from the air intake due to the
swirling/rotational/hurricane nature of the air coming from the Surbo tip.
got it? well ... just like the superchargers lar... higher compress air
etc albeit for Surbo at much smaller scale.
it claimed to add some 0.5psi of boost or something.

and to reap the benefit of the Surbo, you have to drive the car a certain
way. something like this... when you drive, you rev the car up to some
2500-3000 RPM and then in split seconds, you let go of the clutch shift
the gear and press on the accelerator again.
i think after the gear change you do this real fast, press the accelerator
(to that 2500-300RPM band) and then release it a little bit (drop some
300RPM or so) and press it again. This is where the so called suction
turbo kicks in. the last move sort of make a engine sucks more air and the
Surbo magnifies it and swirl the Air around and promotes ...... (refer to
theoretical explanation above)and then my friend
YOU'LL FEEL THE SURGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!

hmmmmm.... does it work? according to my friend it does. me? indifferent i
guess. cause I'm not sure its only the Surbo lar. well here's my argument
the surbo itself is really a minimal thing. i guess the nature of the
engine is as such that should we do the last step (press, hold back, and
press again) it will sucks more air than usual thus the extra boost.
without the Surbo we will still get the result, so the most that the Surbo
does is just 'enhanced' the effect. or at the very least give you the
psychological effect (like the placebo)

cause seriously the thing is just a pipe that was distorted to allow
swirling air to the intake. nothing more...

oh yes!! it doesn't work on Automatic models!

and how does it claims to save the fuel? just like those K&N's filter does
lah! better/more efficient combustion via the compressed swirling air lor..
and no proof on this one so far.

in short, Surbo is pretty much a manual supercharger where your driving
method creates the compressed/swirling air.
I think the superchargers is where the Surbo creator derived the idea.

so, do i think its worth it? don't know.. but i guess at less than RM200 a
pop, why don't you find out for yourself. as i recall the bloke that sells
the Surbo tell my friend that give it a try/test run and then you can
uninstall it if not satisfied (off course before you pay the man lar ie.
that same moment)

where you can get it.. the phone no is in almost all of the mod car mags.

I guess our Cit have power aplenty, but the fuel savings are yet to be
verified

Hope this helps

been there, done that.... don't bother... waste of time and money... if it works then
good... otherwise... your ZX has enuff power lar... saving of fuel... maybe save you
about 10-20sen per filling... still see how you drive... if maniacal driver... then it's not
gonna make a diff.

hello friends,
if all of you noticed, all peugeot have this turbine look thing just
after the air intake by the grille.last time i wanted to install surbo,
but i discovered this cyclone/surbo thing.so i tried to do the surbo pedal
method.it works. no need to put surbo. to fellow citroenites, why spend
rm200? just go to your nearest chop shop, find this turbine thing that
comes in a peugeot.why citroen doesn't install it ,i don't know. maybe
because the original zx/xantia air suction:belalai gajah, suck from bottom
(same like 406),very careful in banjir area.peugeot suction is at the
grille.

ok... i'd like to bring this thread back to the surface since i've done a
bit of research... i've been using the surbo for a year now and i've never
really realised how much an improvement it has given me since i rather
took it for granted and the difference was not immediate but gradual... so
yes i am contradicting my previous posting here... somehow i still don't
think it worth so much money anyways... but here's what i have observed...

i took off my surbo and the K&N filter with the direct air induction pipe
last week and replaced it with another K&N filter and a different air
induction pipe... i do not know whether or not these have anything to do
with what i'm about to explain...

here's what i felt immediately... first of all the drop in power/torque...
i noticed that when overtaking, it took a bit more effort than with the
surbo on... you'll definitely take notice if you want to overtake a kancil
and it's taking some time to out accelerate it... hehehehe

anyways... to go on.. i also noticed that since i'm staying on bukit
antarabangsa.... it's taken a bit of effort going uphill... there is more
strain on the engine to move up hill...

now as for highway driving... i did try it too and i found that there was
a minor difference but it made the difference all the same... again
overtaking was a hassle though not difficult... slower than usual...

oh... and finally... i'd like to mention the most important part... some
of you may have noted that my fuel consumption was as good as 12.5km/l
mixed driving... if i drove aggressively it would be about 11km/l... this
is what took me by surprise after removing the surbo... my consumption
went up and i got 9-10km/l for normal driving and 7-8km/l for aggressive
driving... so leh... heheheh... anyone out there considering this.... well
give it a go lar... you may not notice the difference immediately but it
will come... and you'll miss it when it's out...

i have just put it back in last night and i already feel the difference in
the car... the first thing i felt was the amount of torque available has
increased... as for the power... we'll see lar... i'm leaving for pg
tomorrow early morning... anyone wanna join me?

I've installed SURBO in my zx20(m)and just can't tell the difference,
anyway as I've sold my 8v and I'm now selling the SURBO thing (4 months
old) for RM120 (best offer).

They are also offering stage 2 surbo (similar to ecotek concept) where I
felt noticable torque improvement. However as i'm about to sell the car
that time i didn't buy the 2nd stage and one more thing i'm sceptical
about the stage 2 where the hose branch from the brake hose (i worry if
the one way valve of the stage 2 surbo failed there goes ur brake).
