Hi all,

I just bought a second hand `97 model(one owner from new) milage 90k.
I would appreciate feedbacks from zx16v owners out there;

1. what is the common problems with zx 16v? coz i`ve seen few units in
many workshops doing major overhaul (turun enjin).

2. If possible i want to do preventive maintenance and TLC for my 16v to
avoid major breakdown in future. I`m going to change the timing belt
soon. Any other wear & tear parts need to be replaced/modified?

3. Is it advisable to take out the thermostat (someone recommend me to do
so).

Appreciate all sifus advice.

thanks and best regards.

p/s: I also like to know how I can joint the citroen club in this forum

silver16v....wellcome to the club. To officially join?..hantor yr "resume"
to our prez, Mr Vonnig..ask him his email, aku lupa laa.

Aku pun 2.0i 8V, so 16V aku tak leh komen, tak tau laa. But one of our
friends did mention if 8V you could do "top overhaul" sampai 3 times, but
for 16V, no way man. Have to change the whole piston becoz there's no room
to "skin" the head. Maybe thats why U see a lot 16V turun engine. Don't
know how true it is....

Hi there silver 16V. well congrats on getting a 97 model 16V cos getting a
16V of this year of make is quite rare compared to mine which is 94. well
basically yours is the mark 2 version of the ZX 16V thus timing belt
replacement parts are different from mine which is mark 1.

1. Well a very good preventive maintenance is first to change the timing
belt, bearings, timing tensioners, and crankshaft seals. You have to look
at your exhaust manifold as well just to check the condition.

2. For the thermostat just have it changed to a new one and check your
water hoses as well. Mine i had to change about three or four bypass hoses,
due to aging.

3. Get the radiator serviced or flushed.

4. Check for oil leaks, mine i had to change the oil sump gasket, cheap anyway.

5. Check your power steering hoses for any leakages.

as for engine parts, well i do not have any problems so far so i cant
advice you futher on that. To add, i changed the clutch plate as well.

cheers

well silverzx, i dont know an actual 16V expert in KL but i send my car to
a continental car specialist in sunway. his prices are quite reasonable and
he has done a lot of work on my car as well. his name is douglas tan, an
expert in doing alfa romeo's. my ZX is a piece of cake for him lah. hahaha.

my advice is to do your own R&D first on the parts you want to change and
source the parts on your own and then give it to a mechanic to have it
fixed. its a cheaper option actually. anyway, his workshop is in front of
the medan selera in sunway, near sunway college, and his shop has a small
'alfa romeo' logo attached on it. i forgot the name of the shop but it is
in the same row as the new high tech modification shop with a 'motul' sign
on it. you cant miss it. its in the centre of that row. oh ya, his shop is
a partial spray painting and workshop as well.

cheers

another 16v proud owner!! congratulation on your recent purchase..

Dah lama tak tulis dalam ni.. so I'm a bit rusty..

Well, I'm not an expert in 16v.. but after using and 2.0 8v for 2 years..
and currently in my second year driving a 1996 16v.. I think my input
would be beneficial for new owners..

For one.. silver16v.. I don't think yours is a MKII.. all 16v in Malaysia
are MKI, those brought in prior 1994 has a different grill in front, with
some models with sunroof, and those later ones (1996 above) have an
upgraded ABS.. Remember, MKII, has a different intake manifold and head
cover.. it shares the same characteristics with Pug 306 S16.. FYI, there
are a few owners (turn seller) claiming that theirs are MKII as they
brought the car directly from UK.. but I'm yet to see with my own eyes...

I for one have been blessed with a well maintained model, with average
mileage.. since this is my only car, it has been serving my daily
commuting to work and back.. and occasional balik kampung and outstation
trips..

I'm on my 3rd sports wheels in 2 years.. now it is running on 16" ALLESIO
wheels..I have experienced with Speedline and Millie Miglia wheels.. these
imported wheels are whole lot better than BSA and JRD... I changed the
clutch plate, both drive shafts, and a lot of other wear and tear stuff to
enure the car is durable and dependable for my daily trips.. on top of
that, the car has SPARCO stabalizer strut bar, MUSKETEERS sports springs,
SEBRING exhaust rear box, rear back seat changed to bucket seats with head
rest from early 1.9 Auto, air intake has been modified stainless steel
pipe, with performance air filter, along with self designed heat shield..

What has been broken to date, fuel pump due to the famous fuel pump
incident, gear linkage, belt pulley... and a few gaskets..

Future change.. provided no other stuff broken.. brake pads with
performance disks, sports suspensions, leather seats etc..

But again.. it has been 2 years.. itchy for a new set of babe mobile..
anyone interested with my green 'horny' hornet.. but like my old CITROEN,
I wouldn't sell it to any Ali, Ah Chong or Ramasamy.. it must pass the
rigid "I love my CITROEN more than my wife/gf Test"...

Halimmo and all,
Thanks for the feedback. I just done some checking and confirmed that my
16v is not MK II model, reason;

Model Engine Code Year ECU System Output
ZX 2.0i 16v XU10J4/L/Z(RFY) 1992-1997 Bosch Motronic MP3.2 152@6500
ZX 2.0i 16v XU10J4D(RFT) 1994-1996 Bosch Motronic MP3.2 150@6500
ZX 2.0i 16v XU10J4RS(RFS) 1996-1998 Magnetti Marelli 1AP10 167@6500

I checked my ECU and it is Bosch Motronic MP3.2, but still not sure how
to check engine code (RFY or RFT). I also interested to see the MKII
engine if anyone owned one.

Thanks and best regards.
