For those of you with faulty power steering pump.

noted that the new waja 1.8 uses the same steering pump unit with
ZX/peugeot/renault.
the mounting are identical including high and low pressure fitting.

for those diesel zx and xantia...the pulley diameter is smaller. u can use
a petrol driven pump but u need to replace it with the original smaller
pulley to get the right power assitance.

replacement of pump is DIY but the replacement of the pulley would involve
one with a mechanical engineering degree plus the most advance workshop
equipment.

sad to say this but learnt it the hard way. i kaputted the two pulley and
end up machining a new aluminium unit for my diesel ZX.

btw....anyone with a broken flywheel pulley in need of replacement....i hv
one extra unused self machined aluminium type. just pay me any amount
deems fit!! drop me a note at

swlee@linuxmail.org

self collection at USJ....(sorry no warranty)

Great to hear that. Wonder how much is the unit sold by Proton as volume
for 1.8 is very much lower than 1.6. Couple of years back I enquire from
Directional ZX 1.8 PS pump cost RM1,800. Last year check with Asli, the
price is RM1,400. I have fitted my 1.8 with 2.0 PS pump (black in
colour). 1.8 PS pump original fitting is metal (almost gold) colour, just
like Pug 306 1.8 (they share XU7 engine anyway). Pulley diameter is the
same. I notice that my streering is rather lighter. I don't like it. I am
thinking of changing it back to the original fitting. Do you think the
both PS pump have different setup? My original PS pump the pulley bearing
broken. My steering pinion also has a slight leaking. Don't know whether
the 'light' feeling cause by which one.
