My autobox still going great (fingers crossed). ATF change every 6 months
and just replace my ATF filter. Smooth operator.

Be careful when you buy from those spare parts shop. I was once offered a
AL4, guarantee good he says, but its only for the xsara.

well well my time has come!!

a year have passed since i owned the car and covered about 33,000kms.

yesterday, while i was reversing the car out, i felt some slippage. i
tested again and the box actually slipped during reverse, but on all 4
forward gears is still normal, no slippage - yet.

what could have attributed to the failure? something statistics to note

1. oil cooler modification. some may say less internal pressure for the
box.

2. Dex 3 ATF i have been using and bottle of Lubeguard RED?

3. car total mileage is 136,000kms, but this is not the original box.
previous owner changed it in 2003 when mileage was about 80,000kms. so i
am having a box from chopshop.

4. i changes the bloody ATF everytime less than 10,000kms...so i figure
it is luck.

will send it for checking, hopefully nothing major, but i am expecting
for the worse.

now is my dilemma.narrowed down to 2.

1. change to hand shifting. sourcing for parts may take a long time and i
dont like the idea of my car getting baked in the sun. i can live with
hand shifting and can play with the top of the line synthetic manual box
oil.

2. swap with another good condition chop shop autobox, of course have to
take risk again for it to be broken again in a year or 2. best is of
course taken directly from halfcut where mileage can actually be seen.
4HP14 boxes are currently going from as low as rm1200 to rm2000.......

lets hope nothing major.

wallace.. "pakai jee".. from you have done to your auto gearbox.. it seem
to be a fair play from your side...not to scare you.. but last time just a
two week b4 the gearbox breakdown... my gearbox behave like that.. slip...
then no gear... 130Kkms?? 1 time changed... just be prepared with AAM
membership if you have one... I've downloand the article recommended by
vonnig about the autogearbox.. the guide how to drive to its maximum
lifecycle ... when you hear the "cruck" "cruck" sound from your gearbox..
then loose power.. that is the end of the gearbox sega as what happened to
me few months ago.... and my mileageage is about 130K miles (X1.6 to
convert to kms)....

Anyway someone said the gearbox can be service? How true is this
information... what I means is the inner parts service.. not just changing
atf and filter only...

Hello all,

may i know when is the atf filter for zx? is it inside or outside the
gearbox? can it be changed like the oil filer externally? and how much it cost?

have not changed mine before, maybe change it during the next service?

thanks.

ken,

1. just felt it is funny, only happened on the reverse gear. i thrashed
the car again on MRR2 just now, seems okie.normal. citibank credit card
giving me free towing though.

2. dun think the oil cooler is the culprit. it is a common modification
and OEM fitment even for the XM 3 litre. everytime i change the ATF, they
are as clean as i put them in.

3. yes, the box can be serviced - by flushing. look up autochild in
glenmarie.

4. hiew, it is inside the box. it can be changed, but not like the normal
screw on engine oil filter. need to remove the sump and some long bolts.
first one i bought for rm90, second is rm55, not sure what is the
difference, they look the same to me.

I've just carried out my ATF servicing last weekend & manage to look at
the filter. It is not complicated at all (basically a square plastic box
with a few square meshed window inlet & 1 round outlet) & I don't think
it requires to be changes at all unless any of its parts worn or torn.
