I went to test drive the Matrix and Getz last Saturday. The SA told me
that the engine for Matrix and Getz are different. Matrix uses DOHC but
Getz only SOHC. Somemore Getz don't have EDB. When I drove Getz, I found
that the steering a bit tight but Matrix was very light. The tire of Getz
was Sim Tyre but Matrix was using Korea brand tyre. Talk about the
interior design, I still prefer Matrix. I looks more solid than Getz. The
engine and road sound not that loud coming in for Matrix. But for the
exterior design, I like Getz, having modern style.

By the way, shaun8181, when will you get your Getz? Did you get any
discount or offer?

chewlf,

I think you should not believe everything that your salesman tells you.
Some of these salesmen are just that - salesmen. They're only interested
in making a sale - product knowledge is secondary as most of the time the
potential customers themselves are ignorant as well. Probably he gets a
higher commission for pushing the Matrix, or Matrix stocks are overflowing
and therefore he needs to clear it. This is from my personal experience in
quite a number of showrooms, regardless of marque (although this kind of
behaviour is more often seen in newer retail outlets). In fact most of
these salesmen became quite intimidated once I opened my mouth and
demonstrated my superior knowledge in automotive matters (having a brother
who designs Perodua vehicles does help a lot though Big Smile). In fact, only a
few of these people are really knowledgeable about the products that they
sell - and only these people should rightly be bestowed the title of SA
(sales advisor). The others are just salesmen - no better than the ones
bugging you to buy those RM10 products while you're having tea/coffee at
your favourite kopitiam.

The Alpha II series 1.6 litre engine that is installed in the Getz and
Matrix are both 16-valve, DOHC ones. There is no SOHC 1.6 litre Alpha
engine. The engine is essentially the same, but with slight difference in
the shape of the piston crown resulting in the Getz's superior power
output (77.2 kW vs the Matrix's 76 kW - both at 5800 rpm) and torque
(143.2 Nm/3200 rpm vs 141/4500 rpm). Displacement is also slightly
different with the Getz's being 1594cc while the matrix's 1599cc.

hahaha Big Smile sorry tcx2757. I probably lack of such knowledge. Easily
seduced by what the SA said. Shy

Could anyone of you tell me why there is a difference between the
displacement of Getz and Matrix since both of them using the same engine?
What is max torque?

How can we confirm that the car is having ABS or EBD? Is it written in the
car booklet?

hi PPL of the GetZ, sorry i went MIA for a while.

ok firstly ugakgedik(can someone PLEASE tell me what the nic means..its
like a tongue twister..hehehehe Wink no offense dude) did a fantastic job
of engine explanation.

oh and yes, i totally agrees that most sales reps have this irratating
habit of thinking they know more than the lame person just becos they
happen to be in the car sales line. i don't doubt they are also plenty who
does their homework and is technically savvy, but most are off-the-mill
make a quick buck burghers. so yes there is a fear the GetZ will sell
better than the Matrix 1.6 version as opposing not only to their looks but
to their power to weight ratio as well. driving the 1.6 matrix was
sluggish and yes altho there is no doubt of interior and size superiority,
basically we are comparing 2 totally different vehicles of different
categories.

it all falls down to the taste of the individual as i have once heard a
remark from a lady who said she doesn't mind the SOHC of the Chevy Aveo
becos she's buying the looks not the performance. which type are you?
Looks/Performance/Space/Economy/Re-sale/BIG BACKSEAT SPACE(hamsap fella's
only)..hehehehe

so you need to ask yourself why and for what reason do i like a particular
model. me i just went bonkers with the performance and for an affordable
RM69K, i get an automatic that performs and its an imported car. the rest
of its bad points, i've learned to accept.

oh btw, if you're looking for the matrix, why not think about the CAREN,
its nicer, bigger and from what i've heard only slightly more expensive.

p.s. my car arriving in Oct 2nd week.

to the rest of my peeps.....hope your car's delivery comes fast and
furious as well...

Agreed too!
I mean the point about SA = plain SALESMAN.
All they want to do is just make big buck and run off...well, tell me its
not like that! U see, they paint you beautiful pictures, u buy, problem, u
go back to them, they tell u that thats what u get for that price...tell
me i am wrong!

Whatever it is, just listen to your heart! I am very much like that lady
shaun wrote about...i just buy because i like what i like not what others
like!

Moreover, come on, where can you get a nice looking car like the
GETzzzzzzzz with a 69k?!?!?!/!Big Smile

err..ok, i've had 3 frens tried the hyundai Getz and this is their comment

1.housewife (mostly just sending child to nursery/go market/light travel
for errands..typical auntie lah she...even if she is only 26)Kisses
quote "the car small but ok ler, just me and my boy only mah. but a bit
powerful hor. try kenari also something like dat but not so powerful. not
sure what lo kung want to buy yet. maybe getz or maybe second hand wira."

note: she said the words small and powerful, and also if you noticed a
second car for the family.

2.party animal (typical lah..Account Manager cum party animal cum drunk
driver)Clown
quote "car is not bad, quite fast but very bare ler. inside lucky got CD
player or else like a kelisa. at least the engine is better than most of
the car it's range. still if the price at RM55K better lah. not many
options to "kwoi"(mod) the car until "yah yah"(flashy flashy), but can
consider since the car is fast. didn't expect from an auto"

note: he said fast=powerful, bare and pricey which is a minus

3.my uncle (typical dad-type who would take the son's car and drive it
anywhere..prefably outstation if possible) Wink
quote "why lah buy this car. don't you think its bloody small, look at it,
from what i know hyundai is not really a great buy, parts problem,
servicing problem etc.."(my father also haven't complain yet)
after quote "same engine with matrix 1.6 meh? really? then better buy than
the aveo, definitely, ok ler since you made up your mind then your money,
your decision, and well, its quite a surprise, but for the price you're
paying for a small car, it better be a surprise"
*
(notice ppl always think the car is small, powerless but...) Approve

note: nice drive=nicely balanced performance overall, and again
pricey...seems to me they still think small car should come small price.
must be the proton syndrome

so take your pick and see which of these is a typical you. Wink

Hei shaun, agree with you, nowadays still many people think small car
should come small price. but if we look at other 'small' car like Peugeot
106/206, Honda Jazz/city , mini cooper, vios,..... none of them are cheap
car, size doesn't matter.

....if really want a cheap and big big car, could consider Rusa.. kekeke..
or bus kilang..sure you satisfy the car size to price ratio.

rusa nice what, bas kilang..i dun think anyone has a parking in their
homes unless they stay near a depot.

so, to anyone who needs to compare a getz, lets stick to comparing the
206, getz, kelisa, clio, aveo and cars in the similar category and not
with cars from the mpv or suv or rojak-V catergories.

well, has anyone confirm the roadtax yet?

all i heard was it will follow according to the RM252 for the 1.6 cars. so
i don't think there will be any surprises.

and i bought a whole duck tape to take out the furs of my little dog becos
the fella's is shedding and my old car is filled with furs...damn duck
tape works like a miracle and only 2.50..hehhehehe Big Smile
