I agree totally Hazard lights should only be used when stationary but its
interesting to note when a VIP car goes by escorted by police outriders
(i'm sure you seen plenty durign the NAM) Almost all of these VIP cars
and police are ALL flashing thier hazard lights! Double standards!
By the way I notice those flashing amber/red lights like those in
police/ambulance being sold in supermarts for RM50, maybe that is the
solution? Just get one and stick to top of car?

i wonder about what youngman2 has brought up..i've seen them too..i know
that it's not easy to change the mentality of malaysian drivers on their
bad driving habits..i admit i have some too (e.g driving over the speed
limit, driving too close to the car in front)..u can criticise me about
them..i know they are wrong.at least i do try to drive 90-100kmh on the
highway from time to time..but it really irks me when drivers turn their
hazard lights on during heavy downpour!!..i know it's been discussed to
death here.i heard that one of their arguments is to improve visibility of
their car to others. how about when they want to change lanes? if their
argument is 'i'll stick to my lanelah!', now that's pure bs..then what?
turn off their hazard lights and turn the indicator? wah, like that
downpour in k.l or wherever is also yellow lights orchestra..i make sure
that if i ever came upon such driver who does turn their hazard light
during downpour, i'll horn the hell out of them, and if they ask me why,
i'll say to improve my car's visibility and audio-bility..hehehe

Just want to share some of my opinion. Few months ago, had seen a TV
programme in discovery channel about the Driving IQ, the researcher in US
have actually discovered that if there is a very heavy down pour or in the
case of severe fog, pull out of the highway and ...believe this or
not..."switch off all your light"...hehe. Guess what, when you switch on
the light, other car will home into your car and guess what happen next?

What chtan means that if you only have tail lights on a broken down
vehicle, other drivers might mistake it for a moving vehicle and end up
crashing into it. The same advice applies in the UK as well. If you've
broken down, you should always have hazard lights on. If visibility is
poor, then switch the tail lights on as well (and not instead of hazard
lights).
In poor visibility, other drivers tend to follow the lights of the car in
front. You're not supposed to do that- you should be leaving a large gap
from the car in front (at least 4 seconds, i.e. twice the normal 2 second
rule) and watch where you're going- but then I guess not all drivers are
that careful.
