Alfa Romeo is Italian (European cars)
CVT ---> Continuously Variable Transmission (gearbox)
CVVT ----> Continuous Variable Valve Timing (engine)
CVT & CVVT is 2 different thing.

CVVT ----> Continuous Variable VAVLE Timing (engine)
TRANSMISSION (use for gearbox term)
VAVLE (use inside the engine)

Where got valve use in gearbox?
CVT ---> Continuously Variable TRANSMISSION (gearbox) --> belt driven
gearbox. Continuously Variable Transmissions are transmissions that
provide an uninterrupted range of speed ratios, unlike a normal
transmission that provides only a few discrete ratios

varying the valve timing of an internal combustion engine to increase the
retarding effect of the engine for braking purposes, to increase the
compression ratio of a relatively low compression ratio engine to enhance
starting, and to optimize breathing to improve the engine performance
over the useful operating speed range. The valve timing is varied by
changing the total valve train length so as to shift the points on the
cam profile at which the valve opening and closing events are determined.

Yo,
Dun get worked up..I know where is the valve and where is the gearbox..it
is just that the terms by Japs is rather confusing sometimes, coupled
with Vtec, VVTi and the like...
But thanks for the differentiation of CVT and CVVT...from a lettering
point of view, it does look the same but the meaning it carries is
different...same as SOHC and DOHC...a layment wud say..what so bloody
different..but if you know what it means it doesn mean a lot...

Vtech, VVTI, CVVT.... all same, variable valve timing... some kind of
marketing strategy only...

At the end of the day, the car still ferries us from point A to point B,
regardless of CVVT, CCTV, MiTV, VVT-i, VTEC, i-VTEC, i-DSI...

Nowaday we are talking about how to make it save fuel, less pollution,
faster, safer, more comfortable ect from point A to point B.
That's why we need new techonology. But all this our lovely P1 is not
qualify at all.
