Yup, that`s the procedure.

Always follow the manual. The sequence in my manual is as follows:

1) +ve dead battery to +ve good battery
2) -ve good battery to engine block of car with dead battery.
3) Start engine of car with good battery
4) Wait about a minute and attempt starting engine with the dead battery
5) If engine is successfully jump-started, let it idle for about 5 mins
6) Remove cables in reverse order

Some suggest revving the good-battery engine and keeping it at 2,000 RPM
after the other engine has been jump-started, kinda like to pump
more `juice` into the bad battery. Also, revving the engine that has just
been jump-started is commonly done.

Once, there was this lady who couldn’t start her Kembara. Her friend
showed up with jumpers and they connected the cables, WRONGLY, making the
common mistake of completing the circuit, i.e. connecting –ve to –ve.

Even the “helpers” – some guys who were attempting to help her – didn’t
know. I then went up to her and explained to her the correct jumper-cable
connecting sequence and method. I then removed the –ve clamp from the –ve
terminal of the dead battery and clamped it on the engine block.

Everyone looked puzzled and a little stunned. After I went back to my
seat (mamak stall), I saw her talking to her friend. She then undid what
I did and reconnected the –ve clamp to the –ve terminal of her car’s
battery.

And this is after I told her doing that could damage the alternator and
fuses. Well, I tried.Smile

Disconnect in the reverse order. The way I remember it is: +--+, +- for
connecting, -+ for disconnecting, just like what Sinque mentioned.

Normally is because the copper wire in the cable is not pure.. In other word, the copper oxidized. So, the jumper cable failed.. When we buy jumper cable, we must identify whether the cable is of 100% pure copper. Jumper cable bought from supermarket or hypermarkets which is made from Cxxxx probably wont works when u need it due to the cause i mentioned. I have one jumper cable from local manufacturer. And it works perfectly as I used it to jumper start for n times throughout the years

Why you need to jump start so many times. Most of the time I use the jumper to help friend car start......

hi there, need to clarify something. my yuasa battery went dead only after
13 months, was surprised as previous other brands can last at least 2 yrs.
went to check alternator, all ok. mech told me my old batt might hv less
plates inside, sort of imitation one. was shocked to find out the weight
differnce compare to the new one. is this true? mean i got cheated last
year? my old one was changed by outside 'don't know who' mech, who came to
'rescue' when my battery mati at parking space.
as for jumper cable case, i bought a 200amp cable, personally never use
before, but i lent to a passerby when his car batt mati, he returned the
cable, very hot. after that, i keep till this case of my car batt mati,
then find out can't jump start already. is there a fuse of something
similar or 200amp is too low? just bought a new one 400amp, is it enough?
thanks in advance for any input.

A hand-portable battery, equipped with attached cables and charger, can be used similarly to another vehicle's battery.
Portable boosters may automatically sense the battery's polarity prior to sending power to the vehicle, eliminating the damage that can result from reversing the connection...
