But I do find it interesting that it's "sort of" competing with Toyota
Camry, Honda Accord etc even though the their price difference is so wide.

I am moving to Singapore at the beginning of next year and have already
decided to get another one, difference is that it's about SGD105k in a
fair and open playing field.
I wouldn't pay RM245k for a Legacy out of MI here when you can get a new
Impreza STI grey import for much less. More so given there is a slightly
revised model arriving in Singapore in the next couple of months with the
new Impreza's 2.5L Turbocharged boxer......ooooo, yum, the boxer rumble.
Being honest, my Legacy is just great! I had an Impreza STiVer.5 before
and this is just as much fun. It's more of a tourer, is a semi-auto yet
still comes with ~270hp/300Nm. The Legacy is a dead easy car to tune and
modify and i know units in Singapore running 350hp/460Nm.

fuel consumption compared to a Honda Accord or the new Honda Civic.

If cant affor the FC better don buy it.
My fren's airtrek running maximum 300KM per full tank (town).

light comes on..... tank is stated as 64L.
On a run at legal speed to Singapore i can get 10km/L.
Obviously in both cases everything depends on how you drive. If you want
to enjoy the 270hp/290Nm and boxer sound then for sure FC can kill you
but do remember also all Subaru have permanent 4WD that does zap some FC
from mere mortal cars like an Accord.
You cannot compare a Legacy with an Accord.... just on performance and
handling alone!

you dont compare a subaru WRX with an Accord or Civic.
Three completely different types of cars.
The Subaru WRX STi gets 9KM / litre or less. Turbo cars are expected to
have higher fuel consumption.

For about RM90 bucks, average is about 400 for town use. long distance is
about 450km. lots of acceleration and stop starts gave the worst of 280km
per tank.
But overall, its a joy to drive. depends on the age also I think.

with the same budget, it's a no-brainer...I will buy this again
as for fuel consumption, I can get around 480km for a full tank (60L)
driving from JB to KL (if I keep below 160km/h) Believe me at 160km/h,
the car feels like it's cruising at 100km/h in a Proton. Driver have to
be aware as you can hit speed beyond 200km/h without you realising it.
Above 160km/h this car is trained to gulp petrol
There is just no comparison with a Camry or an Accord. Properly tuned,
the Legacy can makan an stock or lightly modded M3 in a sprint
Scooby5 the new 2.5L model's paddle shifters is a joy but I suggest you
opt for a MT...let me know when you're joing up...got some important
messages for you

I'm actually looking to buy a second hand 2.0L GT now, probably an 05 or
06 with low mileage.
I had a thought about the 2.5L but decided to go second hand and use the
saved money on some mods first so will plan to swap out the block to put
in the 2.5L then a Unichip and a couple other bits'n'pieces. My mechanic
in SG says that with some easy work i can probably achieve ~300hp but
more importantly ~450Nm of Torque.
